ive got a problem with my home network :(

all i want do is connect the ps3 and my laptop to the internet at the same time.

the router is in the loft and my bedroom is downstairs at the back of the house. we currently have ONE ethernet cable running from the loft to my bedroom so i can only have the internet on one device. any ideas how to link them both up? i can't run another cable through the house, i can't move the router closer to my bedroom but ive got a couple of spare routers that can be used in my room.

im hoping there is a way to connect the router from the loft to a router in my room using the ethernet cable and then connect the 2 devices to the new router in my room.

help would muchly be appreciated! :y:

If your broadband comes down a phone line... then that router is in fact
A MODEM router (Connected the broadband and can then route it)
With that in mind
Your Modem route has now made the connection to the internet and has passed it down the ethernet cable.
At the end of the that ethernet cable you now need either a switch or Hub. either will do
its basically like using an extension cable with more plugs :)
Here is the first one I found off PC World
Netgear Switch (http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@1457522851.126446101 4@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccgcadejhgdlkkicflgceggdhhmdgmj.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=726533&category_oid=-24984#productInformationSection)

Im preety sure that most Hubs and Switches require a power supply

So your ethernet cable will plug into the Switch/hub and you can then plug in an additional 2 cables for your Laptop and Playstation

You can finder cheaper Hubs/switches elsewhere. This has the capacity for 5 (bare in mind one of those will be required to be connected to the hub)
So you can find cheaper hubs/switches with less capacity
I recomend any netgear product
If your still unsure or this sounds farrrrr to easy to be true
Take a trip to PC World, grab the product I've linked and wonder over to someone to comfirm :D

Just use one of your routers as a switch if you are confident enough of making sure the settings are correct so that you don't get conflicts with your "actual" router.

Other option is to buy a switch as stated above.

Aww didn't read you had a few routers kicking around
However, you can only have one Modem router on the line at a time. Its how it works, don't make me explain ;)
SOO provided they are standard routers, you should be able to connect your FED ethernet cable into the back of the router, with 2 extra Ethernet cables going to your laptop and PS3.

simplest thing would to put a hub on the end of that ethernet cable then two cables from the hub to each devices. no config, simples!

Just hook up a router, if there are problems its pretty easy to change the routers set up using your internet explorer and accessing the router.

pm me if you have problems.
