View Full Version : The weirdest thing happened today.. Shocked.

Right so I have a rather spoilt friend from college who is always getting stuff bought for him until he phones me up today in histerics saying "I'VE GOT A NEW CAR, I'VE GOT A NEW CAR!!!!" So anyway he wouldn't tell me what it was on the phone so I was waiting around and turns up in a new Golf R 2.0L 6 speed manual.

Obviously happy for him and in shock that his parents splashed out on a new car let alone a new Golf R?! Why not something more suitable for an 18 year old? I know for one if I was lucky enough to be in that situation my parents wouldn't get such a high powered car because i'd obviously "crash and kill yourself" in the words of parents everywhere. (Edited, cheers Nicole :y:)

Anyway now for the next part we go up on to the dual carriage way and he decides to cane it down this dual carriage way at about 2pm not to many cars about as its a quiet bypass so cut a long story short he hit 105mph down this dual carriage way and passes a BMW M3 who obviously see's us then decides to give it a go.. He then looks at it abit closer and realises it's his mum.. A few minutes later he gets a call and she said "I could have had you but I wouldn't want to crush your ego would I.."

I'm still shocked with it all to be honest.. I mean what, REALLY?! The new car was enough but the mum racing him down the road?! Carless much or is that just me?

Needed to get that off my chest

I'm 18 but I do still rely on my mum for things ie I'm laid off for the next 3 week, so she's offerered to lend me the money to pay for my insurance aslong as I pay her back.
But I do agree that 18+ who get everything bought for them without paying it back need a slap.

Also I didn't say it originally I just think your comment was out of line but then again thats all Keyboard Warriors are these days..

Yes, i understand what you mean but even though i have a job i still rely on my rents as i do not earn enough to live on my own (due to collage). So i think you need to be a bit more specific with your first post, i just find when people put comments like you did they don't really think about what they are saying.

I'm 18, and with a chain of events owe a couple of grand. My parents are helping me out by helping me pay some of it. So you're telling me if you were offered help you would refuse it? I struggle to make the money due to the sexism in my work currently (Person covering the supervisor (Who is my Mum, who broke her leg) will only work with female staff so I either get the crappy shifts, or no shifts at all, while 2 girls get loads more hours than me) so I would have trouble reaching some of the payments that I owe.

and tbf its helped me out alot.
most my mates get there wage on the friday.... piss it all up the wall by saturday.

the way i see ... your mum and dad earn the dollars when your growing up to put food on the table and clothes on your back.... you start earning your own corn.... isnt it time to repay them.

yeah some will say they bought you into the world they should look after you. i quite agree.
or dont give them fuck all till you leave home, after spending all your money everyday on fuckall.

get your own pad and its like ohhhhhh shit i got to pay this... that and the other ,,,, i cant go out every week like i used to boozing.

or learn early... where if there is problems it doesnt REALLY matter because your only doing it out of kindness.

make up your own decisions.

I'm 22 and have never had to pay my own insurance, yes it is slightly odd but it's a small perk as it gives me free reign as to what I want to drive providing I can afford to buy it with straight cash. On the flip side though I pay £600 a month on clearing debts, 1/2 the weekly food bill and £10 a week for all other amenities.

As for the lass with 2 horses and 2 cars yet still relies on mum+dad you need to take a look at yourself, can you really ride two horses at once and let me guess you drive both cars at the same time to the stable/paddock.

one cars off the road, the other one i bought cus i needed to get to work.
i had 7 horses last year, went down to 4 which i had to beg my mum to do as its hard letting them go, now down to two, one is a semi-retired and one is 2 years old, so too young to be ridden, so have two unridable horses, and my mum refuses to let me give up completely even if i do prefer cars, what can i do :n: stables are in my garden so enough of the smart arse comments :)

This is not going to go down too well :n:

Think she got a VTR, realised she couldn't tax it because of a mess up, so got a cheap 106 to get her to work and back.. Read her progress threads to see the problem.

And regarding horses.. If you got a dog, brought it up, and sold it, wouldn't you miss it?

How far to work? Do buses/bikes not exist around your ends? Your horses your choice, personally I'd get them nags down the glue factory or donate em to pedigree.

Not being smartarsed just being the voice of reality. I for one used to make a 35 mile round trip commute daily via bus while saving for my first car and on the days I couldn't afford the bus or it was a nice day I'd cycle.

Theres a difference of sponging of your parents or looking after yourself and offering to help,

Ive bought my own car, pay my own insurance, i offer to pay food bills and rent but my parents wont accept my money as theyd much rather i save it, get on my own feet and get my own place as they did when they were my age.

So its not all about you should pay your parents but theres a difference when your relying on them and demanding things as to being offered ;)

So, he's an 18 year old, that's insured on a Golf R... Not impossible, but still a big feat.

Then he goes racing down the road, only a few hours after he's got it, and in the middle of the afternoon, and 'happens' to race an M3 (which lets face it, a Golf R wouldn't really stand much of a chance against), for the M3 to turn out to be his mum, who claims she 'could have had him but didn't want to crush his ego'?

So, simply put, with the way he drives the car will be majorly written off/he'll be in hospital/dead within a matter of weeks...

Its nice his parents are willing to spend however much money on a 2.0 litre golf. People jump to conclusions far too easily about people and rents, i live with my dad but i earn and pay my way, with the exception he helps me out money wise when i need it. I dont agree with teens living off their rents and expecting the world and using it as an excuse not to get a job.

All I'm good at, digging holes. sorry but none of those are excuses, I've got asthma I just used my inhaler when needed, I used to set off 2 hours before I had to be in work for the buses and even sooner if I cycled, fair play I retract the horse comments as I'm quite partial to some cross country myself but if your mum is adamant to keep them ask if she'll foot all the bills for them.
If you cut your unnecessary spending (other car/horses) your VTR would be sorted a lot quicker.

This thread will never die! *Along comes mod.. closed*

I agree with most people of here though it is annoying when you see a young person in a car clearly payed for by theri parent, I'm 19 had a ford fiesta mk4 for my first car getting payed 6k a year and could only just afford to keep it on the road, still had to pay my way at home, got a slightly better paying job and got myself a VTR and have to work hard to keep it running, and i see 17 year old lad that go to college and don't work driving 09 plate cars, I'll be the first to admitt, yeah I am jelous, and would take it is i could, but it still winds me up mainly because my life just won't be as simple as theirs.

ye kids in cars obviously bought by their parents is annoying. but then their clearly going to grow up with no understanding of the value of money.
my father paid half for my 1st car as an 18th birthday present, which was a N reg fiesta. since then paid for each car and insurance myself.
