i thought you were buying JP4 covers?? (just read your other thread)

They need to be wet and dryed and then polished with autosol.

Please try using the correct sections.

Thanks

try a non ferrous metal polishing kit like this

http://www.thepolishingshop.co.uk/acatalog/Standard_Polishing_Kits.html

the first one at 8.99 should do it

thats what i used whne i polished my wheels up

wont need any extra polishing wheels though

Soap is the proper name for the various grades of polishing paste that is used.
Gets the name from the fact its formed in to a bar that looks a bar of soap

The winter has properly destroyed my polished covers - when the water drys on them it etches into the metal. :(

My advice is get them painted/ powder coated unless you're going concours.

True concours would have them paintd the factory finish color and not polishd upThe winter has properly destroyed my polished covers - when the water drys on them it etches into the metal. :(

Sorry Auds lol

Either way imo JP4 covers with the Carbon Fibre coilpack cover IMO looks far superior to the j4 covers whether they are polished or painted.

Aye that's true. I was more referring to the car never being driven in the wet etc. :)

Like painting, it's all in the prep. The metal is quite tough, so start with say 240 grit wet and dry, keep working up in grades to say 1200 or 1500. Dipping the paper in fairy liquid and water will lube it and stop it clogging up so quick. Move up to the next grit when the 'lines' from the previous grade have disappeared.

After sanding, if you have access to a polishing wheel then you're laughing. Even a dremel with the mini polishing attachment might do the job. You can buy a variety of different mops and soaps, so like the sanding process work your way up to the least abrasive combo. If you don't have access to any sort of polishing equipment, grab a tube of autosol and prepare for some serious graft. :D

Try not to disturb the seals and make sure there's no crap in the covers before re-fitting them. I gave mine a good swill out with petrol.

Cheers^. It's slave labour keeping them clean in this weather. Wish I'd looked into having them lacquered before I fitted them. :(

i can honestly say that is the cleanest saxo engine bay ive seen. bet its a nightmare to keep on top of, ive just put new rocker covers on mine, if i remove them carefully should the seal still be ok to put them back on????

Yes mate, I never touched the seals on mine as you can't replace them like you can with the new JP4 covers. Just make sure they're clean, as well as the surface they're bolting onto.

If you see any splits in the seals, you can just build up the gap or split with an appropriate sealer... I think Loctite gasket sealer is what people use?

Ah right. Just been using Poorboys wheel sealent on them after polishing, doesn't seem to hold the water off though.

Bold claims haha. Would give it a try but it's a little pricey. :panic:

I know what you mean lol

I have a bare aluminium body westfield kitcar though buddy (no laquer or anything....its polished to a mirror finish and just sealed with the above product. Water and snow doesnt affect it like when it was a bare surface.
