Hi all

Other than the obvious full service history, background check, and usuall things, what should I be looking out for when buying a VTR/Saxo's in general?

Every car has obviously has weaknesses and where better to ask!!

Thanks.

Rear beams.... check the wheels for camber on the rear, and tyres for uneven wear as this can give away a bent rear beam, which can be costly.

Check the structure of the car chassis supporting legs slam panel, look for any creases at these points also open the boot lift the carpet and check around this area make sure all panels are straight and there is no large gaps etc, Now mechanical wise they are pretty strong engine so things to look out for are head gasket check around the cylinder head for any oil leaks, check inside the oil filler make sure their isnt a creamy white substance and also remove the cap for the radiator and check that too for creamy white substance, check to make sure nothing is hanging loose, start the car and listen for the thrust release bearing on the clutch when the clutch is released it will make a tapping nosie from the bottom of the engine if the thrust release bearing needs changing, this noise will go away when the clutch is pressed in, also tappets sometimes need adjusting and can be tappy at times, When driving the car make sure you listen out for any missfires, judders, or slips on the clutch best way to test the clutch is to knock it in 3rd whilst going up a hill and floor it, it will noticeably rev without gaining any speed, the clutch is slipping if this happens, Check when the cambelts were done and when the car was last serviced, check the dip stick and make sure it has oil and he has not been driving it with a dry unlubricated engine, whilst car is on tick over goto rear of car and check for any blue smoke or dark smoke coming from the exhaust get the seller to give it a couple of revs for you, under normal circumstances you should just have a light grey/whitish exhaust gas coming out. Check the abs works, by giving it a couple of hard stomps when test driving the car, and check the dash lights make sure their is no management lights on or oil lights, check your levels in all your fluids including brake, radiator, and power steering make sure they are all at the correct level. As already stated the rear beams are a problem so that should be another to check, also make sure the steering wheel sits straight and the car drives straight

Might of missed something their sure someone else can add, i know the order is a little funny but i couldnt be bothered with grammar and order lol
