right my mate came down to mine today... not seen him for a while.
hes got a VW polo 1.3 gt with twin webber carbs (sounds mean)
well he pulled up, came in and had a coffee and a chat then decided to go out for a spin.
tryed to start the car... nothing. the battery was half dead and theres so much compression in the engine.. unless the battery's full the started motor wont budge.
so he put it in reverse and i gave him a push...(car was on a hill).
there rear window was iced up so bad he could hardly see and bump..... i pushed it into a ford ka lol.
waited around for a while... no one came out the house.... so parked the car back up at mine and thought nothing of it... there was no damage whatsoever.
but there was an old lady walking down the street at the time.... i was like "john what if she grasses you up... your fucked then."
so he went and knocked the door and explained what happened, the owner of the car came and had a look and noticed the bumper had a slight crack.
well my mate owns a body repair centre.... he said rather than go through the insurance he will order a new bumper and the paint tommorow and sort it for her. while its in the garage he will get her a courtesy car.
but the girl was addiment she was going through the insurance.
my mate was like.... they gonna charge me £500 pound excess.... i can fix it for way cheaper than that for ya and it will be done by the end of the week.
she said she's gonna ask her dad and phone him back tommorow.
what are your views on this.... is she just being a bitch or what.

Well she probably doesn't know much.. Your mate saying I own a bodyshop or whatever could make her feel like he'll bodge it. Maybe she wants it doing by a third party that won't just do it on the cheap? As annoying as it is for your mate the woman is well within her rights to

Doesn't her excess rise too because she was involved in the accident?
If so surely that would deter her from proceeding with the claim.
coalpoolwalla
1st February 2010, 23:27
yeah can see what you mean about she think it will be a bodge... but when his bright orange, slammed, bodykitted absolute minter of a car is parked next to hers how can she think its gonna be a bodge lol.
she seemed like a propper little daddies girl aswell... stuck up sort of girl.
and all over the KA was stickers "powered by fairy dust" lmao
but my mate is so pissed off because he will have to pay 500 pound excess for a job that will cost 250 at the most

Yeh but as her car is "powered by fairy dust" she doesn't know to much about cars let alone to think your mates car is a minter.. Try convince her or ask to speak to her dad about it :y:

you should pay it as you pushed the car into the ka, and didnt you look behind you to see what was their or maybe you should have de-iced the window before hand

common sense tells you to see whats behind the car or infront, work out how much room you have to do what you need to do, problem solved

I understand where you're coming from dude. Tbf, yea she's within her right's to go through insurance. But if she actually sit's down and think about it she will probably realise it's best to get your mate to do it.

Exactly mate. And alot of accident's are sorted in the way you and your mate want to.
My dad scuffed my back bumper on my Sax a while back with my uncle's van. I whipped the bumper off, took it to our mate's bodyshop and my dad paid for it to be repainted. No insurance dealings.
I had a small bump in my mk1 Clio. Just one of them new driver error's playing with stereo and talking to a mate as i pulled up to lights. Smashed my indicator and scuffed other car's bumper. I bought a second hand indicator and was going to pay for his back bumper to be painted. In the end he sold the car and told me it didn't matter and asked for no money.

True, but he lives on the same street dude. Hard to run away really, aint it :)

She is being a bit bitchy yeah, but I can see why she is doing it if she doesnt know much about cars.
Just talk to her again and talk to her dad and convince them to get your mate to do it, will be cheaper and quicker.
Any damage to your mates car?

1st February 2010, 23:57
Probably would have been a good idea to defrost the rear window so the driver could see out....there were 2 of you there, neither of you thought about being able to see where you were going?
And yeah, your mate's car hit her car, of course she has every right to go through insurance. It's not gonna cost her anything.

surely to god she not that thick mate... when she does take the car to his garage and its all legit?
he already said he will get a quote done for her so she knows the work being carried out and how much its going to cost ect ect, even though she wont pay a penny

we was starting the car so the demister controls would come on and defroft the windows.
yeah maybe defrosting the windows first would have been common sense but it happened.

and he's not bothered about paying for the rapair and doing it for her...
whats pissing him off is she's going through the insurance, hes got to pay 500 quid excess fee and it wont cost no where near that if he does it for her.

2nd February 2010, 01:07
bitch, lol
If i was to claim on someone else's insurance, and he said he owned a bodyshop - i would say i wanted proof of it i.e documents, maby a little chaufer around the place to prove its yours
imo its kinda hard to tell if someone is telling the truth and wants to take your car away and give you a courtesy car without even knowing who he is ;)
coalpoolwalla
2nd February 2010, 01:37
thats the thing he doesn't want to take her car and give her a courtesy car... he wants her to go to his body shop and take her car ( she can then see its all legit ) he's got around 8 cars at his garage. she can take one as courtesy while hers is being repaired.
she really is just being a bitch about it.
oh well thats all folks im off for some shut eye.
i will let you know tommorow what her dad says and if he is going to let my mate carry out the work :)
night all

I don't see how she's being a bitch, I wouldn't trust many people to get it sorted outside of insurance for me, as I've seen so many stories where it's ended up in court, or they actually didn't in the end get the compo they could of got if they went through insurance.

2nd February 2010, 08:05
Nobodys mentioned on here, if she is to go through the insurance route she will have to pay her excess as well. Albeit she will get re-imbursed by your mates insurance at the end but she will have to stump up the cash first. Tell her dad that and i'm sure it will put her off going the insurance route.

No she is not a being a bitch!
She woudn't even have to get her car repaired if you and your mate had not been acting F###ing pratts!! And then LOL about it.
You only admited that you had hit her car because an 'old lady' as you put it saw you do it!!
I wouldn't trust you mate to repair it either, given his car has to be push started every time you need to start it!! I bet his painting skills are realy good??
Good luck to her, I hope she stands her ground!!
iluminusbutterfly
2nd February 2010, 13:43
i can see why she is doing it, there is a potential for more damage which is being masked by the bumper, and if your mate fixes her bumper and then a few months later the other problems start to arise then shes up shit creak, where as if she sends it in under the insurance then they will check everything

If she doesn't trust you, offer her some money and let her sort it out. I had a bump, which was my fault, so i said i would give the guy £250 not to go through insurance. Sorted :)
She probably wouldn't give 2 shits anyway and be happy with a bit of cash to spend.

This thread was actually going well, some actual point's being made, until here.
He own's a bodyshop, he's not a mechanic. So if his car does need bumpstarting everytime, it doesn't say anything about his painting skills, last thing I knew, you didn't need to be able to even change a set of spark plugs to be able to spray a car. Same as you don't need to know how to hold a spray gun to change a set of plugs... They're two different things.
Onto the point of the thread, I can see her concern, probably wanting to do it all legit, not knowing whether she could get into trouble for doing it 'off the record', so to speak, and that your mate might just leave it and claim to have nothing to do with it, although, hopefully her dad will see the other side to it, and advise her to see your mate's garage, probably with his supervision too.
EDIT: I see it's all sorted now, good outcome ftw. :)

thanks mate. theres a small minority of folk on here what just love causing a fuss.
why?? i do not know
and yeah its all sorted now... he payed just under £170 to get it sorted so he gave 80 quid as a sort of thank you and sorry payment. still better than £500 quid excess eh?
she is happy with the work he's carrying out and has even agreed if she needs any more work done to her car body wise she will come to him :):)

win win mate.. glad he has sorted it. i hit a car the other day in a petrol station broke a grill and headlight gave him the cash to get them from vauxhall... it makes it easier for both of you really no hassle with phone calls and all that...
atleast it fixed and he saved his excess and no claims

I can see how she might not want to let the guy whos just bumped her car, take it away to fix it.
If your excess is £500 then give her the opportunity to take the car to a bodyshop and have them quote the repair damage. If its less than £500 you pay, if its more than £500 then you think about whether its worth paying over the odds to keep your ncb or let her run it through insurance?
