Have been looking for a while for some alloys for my saxo 1.1 2002. Although have seen some that have been done that look like the car is on stilts once the alloys have been fitting and I want the car to look good without being lowered (initially).
Have seen 'ScottishLad' has a great set of alloys on his and wondered if that is lowered aswell or is that just standard? also which size, 15, 16 or 17?
Ow yer, and I also dont want tyres to rub on arches smileys/smiley5.gif Please help
Cheers everyone

Would really depend on your insurance company by how much.Give them a ring first to make sure. It does make the handling 100times better tho. I would defo advise you to get it lowered.

mine is on 16's and when I have three people in the back it is around the height tha I want it to be lowered and there is about 3mm between the rear of the arch and the tyre and about a mm between the inside of the arch and the tyre smileys/smiley3.gif

so in other words. 17's would be out of the question lol

Similar problem to my dilemma.

I'm going either 14" tho i would prefer 15" alloys and making sure the rim width is no larger then 6.5J. And lowerer it a maximum of 40mm.

I've decided this just on the basis of what i've heard on this forum, its probably your safest route.

Insurance usually does increase with a 'mod' declared as lowering is a 'mod'. But as said it depends on the insurance company and your age as to whether they bend you over and financially bum you senseless about it.

Cheers 4 all ur help guys. Just a few more things. what width of tyre should I go for in order for best handling and looks and 'snewham', how far does your rear wheel arch sit above the wheel with no-one in?
thanks

this is how far it sits above the wheel:

so it's about 3 or 4 cm i think. That isn't where the problem is on mine though. The problem is the fact that my wheels are 7.2 inches wide and it rubs on the inside of the arch :S

can you full lock it without rubbing Snew?

marc,
For 6.5J alloys you want to have a tyre of around 195mm.
If its a style and handling priority you could have wider but your going to have some bad wear charactistics trying to cram a wider tyre on to a slim(ish) alloy so go through tyres a lot quicker than you otherwise would.

The most common types of tyre are:

195/50/R15
195/45/R15

Thats probably your best bet.
Both of which are quite similar to the rolling circumference of your current steel and tyre so your speedo wont be drastically incorrect.
