refurb engine - HELP!!!!!

Spent last eight weeks stripping down and checking over a refurb 1.1 engine for my 98 Saxo. Got the head skimmed etc.
Put it all in engine works ok but battery warning lamp comes up on dashboard very faintly, car only runs for about 20 minutes before I loose all power.
Been looking at Haynes manual, alternator set up suggests the block comes from a 1.6 engine but the head is a 1.1. Have been told that the refurb engine is possibly from a 1.1 Peugeot 106 but I thought the layouts for Citreon and Peugeot engines were the same unless it was a bigger engine.

looks like you need to change the alternator for one from a 1.1.. you will have to change the mounts for it to!. are you sure it`s not a 1.6 bottom end?.

Tried that, kept alternator and mounts from original engine but mounts for that dont fit refurb. I think bottom end is 1.6 but only going on pics from haynes manual, pics for 1.6 alternator set up is same as what I have on refurb engine.
Didnt think alternator size/fitments would matter original was 70 amp, existing is 80 amp, presume I can get 70 amp to fit existing mounts? Cant afford to get another engine!!!!!

Update for you.

Refurb engine is Peugot 106 1.1i engine. Mechanically the saxo engine is identical. Major difference is the setup of the alternator and the mounts. The nearest Citreon equivalent is the 1.6 engine there are a couple of pics in the Haynes manual for the Phase 1. Biggest problem lies with slight differences in the wiring looms. Have got a Auto Sparky on the case for this, 'cos I don't fully understand all this yet. Definatley not doing this again, gonna get new Astra Twin Top next year!!!!!!!!

well.. i have three engines in my garage, one being an ax 1.1 another being a 1360 axgt engine and the other being a 1.6 vtr.. the blocks are very simular and i think the mounts should fit!. i.e the alternator from the 1.1 will fit the 1.6 if i take the mounts and tesioners from the 1.1 engine!.
