I heard something like this from A mate so if he said it I am sure it can be done but I can't confirm this.

Pretty sure this is wrong. I've got a BB Bold 9700 myself and havn't noticed this. My mate has a 8900 Curve on Orange and he has Wifi in his home and still gets sh*t signal round most of his house, so I reckon the answers no.

Wifi will work for internet based things like BBM (I think), Facebook etc. But not for calls/texts.

I had the same thing going threw my head too mate however I might work with stuff like Voip or Skype but I do really doubt it would help out with Calls but will ask my mate what he was on about.

Only thing wi-fi will help with is the things that run through the blackberry servers. ie bbm and your apps. Also your net

But for calls and texts thats simply run through the networks servers and giant signal masts where ever they may be.
