for best sound the tweeter should be as close to the mid driver as possiable (ie center of it) but they can be put any where aslong as they are the same either side of the car

not as close to the driver...you should put them in the each far corner of
your windscreen..that will provide you with an evenly dispersed
sound...you should talk with an expert...let him give you advice...
and yes...you cut holes for them...

saxoash, you got it all wrong
if they have to be in the centre of the mids, noone would buy components, rather coaxials.
the point in separated tweeter is that you can move it around and find the place where it sounds best.
like popsi said, i found it best in the corners of the windscreen, and each pointed in the other side (drivers side pointed to passenger side and passangers side pointed to drivers side). with that type of setup you can make the tweeters sound not so high.
completely another thing is if you have a place for them in the dash, because they will face upwards, toward the windscreen. when sound hits windscreen, it disperses evenly and gives best result

i also had them fitted into the corners...i had mine attached by making
holes...dont know how yours look but i wouold suggest attaching them by
glue...i regret digging holes...the glue comes easily off..digging holes
afterwards cant be redone... smileys/smiley2.gif

i had mine fitted in the roof lining, it looked ver smart and sounded good to!. all you have to do is make sure you have enough room behind the lining for them!. if your car is a sunroof model there should be plenty of room! (just). i used a 1 1/2" tweeter and it fiited snugly!.

I have Polka tweeters flush mounted into the dashboard just above the side vents. Just use the correct size hole-saw! Sweetsmileys/smiley4.gif
