View Full Version : I should be dead... (still shakin / Nearly had a serious accident)

Ive talked it through with my dad for the last hour or so and im still shakin. I feel as though i wanna talk out what happened to help me chill out and get a response... :( (hence why im posting this thread... mods feel free to delete if you want :/ )

Spent all day in town with this girl, at 5 she catches the bus and i head back to my car. Anyways I left town at 5.10pm and as i was leaving town i joined the a45 to get back home. On the ramp to join the a45, I went on the inside lane with no one infront or behind me (building up to 60mph to merge) and three other cars were on the lane to the left of me (one in front, next and slightly to the back of me). As i get to the top of the ramp i check my shoulder (still building up speed to 65/70mph), with a big space in the slow+middle lane i pulled over directly into the middle lane (with all the other cars next to me pulling into the slow lane so i couldnt). Literally as soon as im in the middle lane i look forward to see 4cars in the middle lane driving at about 5mph 50m infront of me (no hazzards just brakes lights) i immediately slam on the brakes. I saw the cars before but didnt realise they had stopped due to being far ahead of me and i was concentrating over my shoulder on merging into the middle lane. I just glanced at the flow of traffic and from the top of the ramp, anyone would of thought they were moving as it was very busy. As i slammed on the brakes, they locked up and within 1 second the car is skidding sideways with my side facing on coming traffic, then next thing i know im in the middle lane facing direct oncoming traffic with a big cloud of smoke all around me.

The traffic in the middle lane (who were thankfully quite far behind me) all slowed/stopped about 10m from me and let me turn around. I got off the dual carriageway as soon as i could n went home shakin. All this happened within seconds...literally thankfully no one is hurt and i was the only one in my car. I dont know how i didnt hit anyone or how anyone didnt hit me... I SHOULD BE DEAD!!!!!! (i cant stop aying that to myself). I cant help but keep thinking someone out there saved my ass (aswell as the traffic that saw n stopped).

Its shaken me up badly as it was my first near major road accident and near death experience (ive rolled, ditched, crashed field cars etc but nothing like this). All traffic was flowing but for some reason like a few cars in the middle lane were stopped dead practically but i think as soon as i went sideways theyy all pulled away? because as i turned round road was empty apart from the people who had stopped infront of me.....

sorry for the essay... i know im gunna get flamed for this but i was NOT speeding and youve got to understand this all happed within 10-15secs. Damn i need a f**king cigarette....

Glad your all ok mate , Wasnt your day to die ,just chill sleep on it and dont let it get to you

On a cause based note , you havent been carryin anyhtin heavy or had 2 people in the back recently have you ?

the load sensing valve might have jammed up giving you more pressure to the rears causing the sideways moment

sounds like a very scary moment but your ok and so is the car :y: most people have moments like this but it just learns you on how easy it is and in he long run improves your driving :( like the saying goes 'what doesnt kill you, makes you stronger'

you must get back in the car though and go for a gentle drive as if you leave it you may just keep leaving it

Everything happens for a reason.. When I had my little accident, even though it was at a very slow speed it still shook me up that my car just went from under me and went sideways into a curb.. I was like you were, minus the crying, was filled with laughter.. Try and laugh about it tbh, it didn't hurt you.. The adrenaline rush from incidents like these is the best feeling ever!! Should enjoy the moment.

Thanks for the understanding comments guys! :') Much appreciated! :y:

Ill check out the load sensing valve (never heard of that before) i havnt had people in the back for a few months now. I just thought though that the fuel tank is just above the fuel light coming on, so there would of been not alot of wieght on the back wheels (standard interior with an empty boot)... im not sure if that caused the spin??? All the brakes were changed for my MOT at the begining of this year.

once again thanks people

We all have a bad moment at some point if we are truthful. When i was 18 and a bit of a moron i went around a roundabout in the wet too fast and spun, was facing oncoming traffic...was not a good feeling lol

You need ABS.

My backend kicked out once after brakes locked up, quickly corrected it but was still shitting myself.

I had similar happen to me about 6 months ago, i checked speed, looked up and cars in front had stopped, i locked up and stalled the car at 50 mph in the fast lane, i was able to ditch into some gravel and avoid a nasty crash

I had a nervous moment myself on the a38, smartarse in a focus st decided to try and race me I think, it was pouring down with rain. I fly past him at some mph then notice he's slowing down rapidly I was too busy watching him and not the road. There was a que of traffic which was moving at like 10 mph I had to brake, hard. I poo pood my pants tbh and had the BMX's in the back.

Had a near moment in my old 1.1. Turned around a corner and there was Mud everywhere, slid across the road right in front of a Bus and just got out the way in time. Had to stop as I was laughing too much.

thats what you call wrong place at the wrong time. i felt like this though when i was
in my old saxo i VERY NEARLY got a head-on with a transit that was overtaking a car on a stupidly short bit of streight road. thats happened twice to me on that bit of road!

Calm down for a start. It's one of those things.

At the moment you're still effectively learning to drive and your consontration is taken up by the basics. As you drive more you'll find that you'll naturally look further ahead when joining dual carrageways and antisipate more. Stop panicing about it, have a quick think how you could have avoided the situation and move on.

Most people, myself included, usually have a fair few near misses in the first few years, a mix of no experience, too much confidence and too much agression
