Anyone got or had one before?
Or is there anything else you would recomend highly ?

I wouldnt go for sony mate not that great imo. Also a 15 will be deep but slow bass. Awesome for dubstep and drum n bass but if you like your trance or hardcore kind of stuff then you wana be looking at a 12 or a 10 inch sub. Whats your budget?
This sub?

Thats for a budget bit of kit ovbiously there are better makes than jbl but it depends on the money you want to spend. What speakers do you ahve in the front?

idealy you should start at the front of the car and work your way back.
first of all you should consider upgrading the front speakers for somethink better than standard ones.
ideally you want components (amped). (seperate mids and tweeters)
if you install a sub before upgrading at the front, the bass will just over power the rest of the sounds and will sound sh!t.

Yeah I was planning to upgrade the front, not going to be driving her for a few weeks so I thought I'd buy the sub first, seems simpler and then upgrade the front. So it should all be done by the time I'm driving.
But what would you recomend up front then ?

Why'd you hate 6x9s ?
An ok, any reason why it'd be better?

6x9's are pointless aswell as a sub
as said amp'ed componants upfront with a sub in rear

6x9's are just no good with a sub.
i had 6x9's with a sub when i first started with car audio and thought it sounded good untill i heard a set up with amped comps.
i was told to unplug the 6x9's but leave the sub on and watch the 6x9's.
the cones on them ws going crazy even though they was not plugged in.... the reason for this is the air off the sub was moving them.... how can the 6x9's sound any good if really its the sub whats moving them?
so i got rid of the 6x9s and got comps and my god what a diffrence.
JBL also do some good comps

those are what ive got but you can get some comps much cheaper than that
TomT
18th February 2010, 22:55
Ahh ok cheers,
Makes sence.
So, if I where to buy:
These components - http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4889.html (If they're any good?)
And this sub - http://www.halfords.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/product_storeId_10001_catalogId_10151_productId_72 4061_langId_-1_categoryId_165748
What amp?
coalpoolwalla
18th February 2010, 23:08
do you realise you have to get a box for that sub also?
id recoment a JBL GTO amp mate.
but for what they cost your better off going for a package deal like the one you listed above.
and yeah those components will be fine... even better if you run them off an amp
TomT
18th February 2010, 23:15
Yeah I do, that's not quite so hard to pick out haha.
An oh ok, so what would be better.. 1 big amp for the sub and components or 1 for the sub and 1 for the components? Ahhh so many choses and things to think about D:
(Really appreciate the help though :))
coalpoolwalla
18th February 2010, 23:29
personly i would go for 2 seperate amps.... but thats MY oppinion.
and my reason for this is them comps are only 55w rms so you want an amp with around that power.
the sub is 275w rms so you'll also want an amp to power that.
if you get a 4 channel it will either under power the sub or over power the comps
TomT
18th February 2010, 23:35
True true,
But will be needing 2 amps mean I need a new head unit? (one of my friends said it may do..)
coalpoolwalla
18th February 2010, 23:43
nope not at all.
you buy RCA splitter so that the 1 pre out on your headunit will split into 2 sets of RCA's
TomT
18th February 2010, 23:44
And that wont lower quality at all ?
SO:
Thinkin, this amp http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/11555.html
for these components http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/4889.html
And this sub an amp package http://caraudiosecurity.com/shop/product/products_id/1233.html :)
coalpoolwalla
18th February 2010, 23:46
will not lower noticable quality no.
and that set up will be fine
coalpoolwalla
18th February 2010, 23:46
but then the next thing on your list is sound deadening lol
not essential tho lol :D:D:D
TomT
18th February 2010, 23:51
Brilliant :D
Best go rob some old ladys so I can afford it now then aye haha.
Nahh couple more days and I'll be ordering I think.
I'll need to buy some wires to hook up the components yeah ?
TomT
18th February 2010, 23:57
&&& Do you think that sub will be loud enough ? I loves me some dirty dubstep
coalpoolwalla
18th February 2010, 23:57
should get wires with them. ie from crossover to tweets/mids.....but you will need longer wires for the crossover input if the amp is in your boot
you will need wiring kits for the amps aswell
coalpoolwalla
18th February 2010, 23:58
without sound deadning it will be fine.....much more and you will hear every rattle on your car and also sound awfull outside the car
TomT
19th February 2010, 00:07
Ahh ok, so much to buy man D:
coalpoolwalla
19th February 2010, 00:11
