View Full Version : How to pay for a car?

I'm browsing cars and it appears I'll have to travel a way to get a decent furio, so I'll most probably want to take it away the same day, but carrying around two grand cash is a bit risky!

I believe cash machines only allow for a 300quid withdraw per day, correct?
How does everybody else pay? Or do you guys just risk carrying the full cash?!

If I am traveling 150miles there to view it, I'd rather not have to go back in a week to collect it after a cheque has cleared!

depends on your account, mines £500 iirc, but i just go into the bank and then they approve more sums, if you provide id etc, £2,000 carrying is not very risky, i paid for my twingo in cash! that was a large wadge.

Always paid cash for mine. Leave a deposit if you can't get the amount out in one day, make sure they write a note to say it has been paid though.

Depends on the bank though - I know with Lloyds TSB they said I could withdraw as much cash in one day as I wanted... within reason.

I'd rather take the car away on the day, sort the insurance out online and then drive home instead of having to return on another day(which is hard working part time and in full time education), as well as the cost of getting a train up.

I'll talk to my bank(Halifax) and see if there is any way around this.

Any more help appreciated.

Most people have the internet and if you pre ask the seller can't see too many people having a problem with someone using their internet to make a direct bank transfer.

Cash... I Allways go to look at the car first, then if I like it.. Deposit of around £100 mark.. then Go and Collect it after insurance and all that sorted.. And pay with cash...

My bank you can only take out £250 a day at the machine but If I go inside the bank and ask you can take out what ever out...

if you dont feel secure carrying cash around then get a bankers draft, costs about a tenner from the bank and you make it out to the person your paying kind of like a cheque, only the money is debited from your account when you get the draft so the funds are guaranteed and its as good as cash, no time to clear or anything. when i got my car i just got the cash out from the bank, the machines have withdraw limits but the banks themselvs dont.

Easily like above, go into your bank And ask to take out 2k, but iirc You have to go in the day before and book/ tell them that you wish to take out money...

And no it's not risky, Just put it in an envelope and Hide in the Glove box till you get there

bankers draft, or pay direct into his account with his sort code and account number
£2k cash is no problem unless someone knows you got it! so keep it under your hat!!!!!!!!!
