I've recently become a cleaning whore and i find cleaning and polishing the saxo is very theraputic. But i have a bit of a problem :wall: I was just wondering if anyone had any advise on removing the little rust coloured spots on the bodywork? Now it's not rust because plastic doesn't rust. But i thought it could be like tar that has come off but left a stain? I've removed all of the tar that was black but i can't seem to get rid of these little rust coloured spots that are all over. I have a white saxo and, if you can imagine, it shows up pretty bad and it's annoying me. Any help would be appreciated guys, cheers.

You need a mild / aggresive clay

Here is a link to a good clay,

Thank you James. Will it come with directions on how to use or will the guide off here be okay?

I've used the claybar and claybar lubricant that i bought from Polishedbliss.com but it hasn't got rid of the rust. Should i use the more agressive claybar or give it another going over with the mild one next week?

I aim to wash my car once a week so would that be long enough before another claying?

Clarbar wont get rid of the rust. And theres not much you can do for it. Could try to cover it but at the end of the day, it will come back.

And clay bar should only be done a few times a year iirc.

Its depends what the OP is calling rust. Sometimes cars can get covered in metal filings. These filing bond to the paintwork and will be removed normally with a mild clay depending how long they have been on the surface for.

Sometimes they can be alot harder and you will need a more agressive clay.

Claying yes is something you only really need to do when you are going to polish the car. Its not something you should do all the times as all its doing is removing the protection you have put on the paintwork (sealants and wax)

Yeah just taken them with the Digi Cam. Not really good but hopefully you will get the idea with the circles.

The second one of the wing, i have circled just a few spots but there are lots more exactly the same.

According to polished bliss that's what it is. Metal filings that have bonded and rusted.

When i was claying the car i could feel resistance when i was moving the clay over the paintwork, after a few strokes it became less resistant and the clay just glided over the paintwork. The guide i used said that this would happen as it was removing surface contaminents and cleaning the paint.

But the coloured spots are still visible.

Its hard to tell from pictures but it does look as though it is just metal filings buddy.

I would just spend more time with the clay you have and see how you get on.

Did you but the gloss it mild clay i recommended??

James

Yes i did. Bought the Gloss it mild clay bar and the Gloss it gloss enhancer lubricant.

I used the guide from Polished Bliss down to a T. I suppose you can't really tell from the shit pictures but up close in person it's a real mess.

Should i clay it again?

yes buddy.....i would just go over it a few times and see if it helps. Iron filing tlike that bond very securely to the surface....it will take abit of work to sort out.

I've got metal fillings ( you could class as rust spots ) On some area's of my bodywork, I'm off to snowfoam and clay today and i will make a guide on claying later to see if it will help anyone out in the future :y:
