thats crap depend on how it been looked after.. many of the saxo thats are on here break down becuase there not looked after properly. My vts i have had for a year and had no problems its serviced around every 2k and the headgasket and cambelt have been done to prevent problems
i like the punto.. i think slammed they look very good and if looked after and you buy the right one and you carry on looking after it should be fine.. there not many about and there turbo'd with makes them uber cool

spot on, i had one and it was a magic car, 172 bhp was a wee rocket. is pretty easy to get them up at 200bhp.
bar a slave cylinder mine didn't miss a beat in two years of ownership. Not a patch on a saxo in the twisties, but the boost was brilliant. :y:

you usually suppose to service the engine more on higher mileage cars.
do you do everything?
oil change
oil filter
fuel filter
sparkys
air filter
brake fluid change
coolant fluid change
fair play if you do, must work in a garage?
moxy89
22nd February 2010, 23:26
last time was just the oil and oil filter and just replace the coolant and brake fluid.... had 2 sets of spark plugs.. in 9k and 2 fuel filters.. just like it running well... its habbit now lol. i dont work in a garage.. mate of mine is a saxo whore..

same as everything else, treat it well and itll be ok, general wear and tear always happens although fiats dont have the best build quality in the world the punto gt is a nice car, not as nice to look at as a saxo, turbo's do tend to go in these but thats just an excuse to upgrade there nice cars id have one, im considering one for when i turn 21 this year but i will most probably convert my Vtr to a 16v,

thought the fiat engines were soft as shit??
My mate had one that was quite powerfull, spent a few grand making it 180ish bhp and 2 weeks later it went boom
And before you get the twats starting, NO it was not abused, it was run in properly and set up correct. just couldnt handle the power upgrade
Ryan
23rd February 2010, 01:05
I know a few punto GTs which had good power, show them a corner and it was like jordan in 8inch heels walking on ice. ugly as fuck, trying to look good all dolled up but in reality a complete dog thats all over the place
moxy89
23rd February 2010, 08:46
it clearly couldnt handle the power if it went boom surely... you have yo upgrade everything to make it work with a turbo cant cut corner my brother had a R5gtt with around 170-180 cost him thousands and it worked fine no a single problem until he went with a even bigger turbo then the rest just could not keep up with it then pop

I really like them if they are 'done right'. Can be made very quick in a straight line but crap in the bends

They are a old car now all been abused and not many standard cars left try hgt abarth 1.8 16v 138bhp non turbo but with gsr bits and remap they are very good depending how you drive.......

Horrible, Fiats send a shiver down my spine
- @ moxy89 - You service your car every 2k miles? rofl. Mine gets serviced every 20,000 miles and it still has no problems - now that's reliability, show me a punto that will do that!
markymark1987
23rd February 2010, 11:36
why do people slam other cars? most of you have saxo's and ive found the saxo to be more unreliable (cheaply made) my mates had punto gts for years and not 1 thing has gone wrong. whereas my saxo kept having things wrong ie electrics door opener snapping ect
if you treat any car rite they will last but if you abuse it or as said above add BIG turbos without upgrading internaly there going to blow up.
each to there own at the end of the day but no point slating something till youve owned / driven one

my mate had one. Engine dropped out and blew turbo. In a month. Nuff said!

A bit wobbly when pushed hard but they do have some decent power to be fair. They can be flimsy too.

I had a mate that had one which was the best part of 200bhp and it was so rapid but it was well looks after with hybrid turbo and full rebuild and use to breakdown nearly every week. Great car and really fun and good to drive but you will be fixing it all the time.

I have had a few Punto Gt's, never had a problem with them.... couple of hundred quid and you can see aroun 160 - 170 bhp.... both mine ran similar power and never had any issues - just looked after it - and all the electrics worked

Mate not sure why you'd go for a fiat punto gt. Want a small engine turbo hatchback then go for a starlet gt. Much better car. or why not get something non turbo that has similar power?

I've had a Punto GT since 2003. It was used as a main car for a few years, then a second car since.
It's running about 165bhp, and has been since 2004. It's been very reliable, and the only problems in the 7 years, have been a heater matrix, and slave cylinder. Lowered it handles quite well on 16's.
Not had one issue with dodgy electrics. I agree with whoever said about Puntos and crashing though, I wouldn't want to try it out in an accident!!
