i said i wasnt going too bother with another thread seeing has they keep being hijacked but oh well thought i would throw in a topic for discussion, right online dating and romance tbh im scepticle and dont see how anything lasting can come of chatting endless on a website then meeting up on a whim especially with the amount of fruit loops there is out there.
Has anyone got any stories too share and what are your opinions? NO SPAMMING AND HIJACKING PLEASE

two of my mates met their current lasses through websites, match.com and smooch.com I think they were. Seems a bit weird at first, but they said that youre cutting through all the shite and meeting up with people that you already have a bit of common ground with, so easier to get on with them.
p.s. one of the lasses is a stunner, the other ones... alright LOL

Becareful of those sweetheart scams. If someone has been chatting with you for ages (like months) and then asks for money its a scam.

I payed alot of mmoprg's when i was younger (prepare for abuse)
There where actualy alot of people you meet playing these games that have met partners on them and ended up getting married etc. This was the case with alot of world of warcraft players.
Somebody i knew from school met a girl on there from Norway i think it was, ended up flying over to see her after talking for a year or so and i think they are still in a relationship.
I would never personaly do anything like that, but i know that lad wouldn't have been confident enough too talk to a girl in a bar, but hes happy from that.

I'd of been worried and I only ever played the games for fun not too meet people, he took a huge risk but was pretty happy, think they ended up talking on webcam etc before he flew over mind.

I think talking to someone online and meeting up doesn't really differ from meeting someone in a bar on a night out. Its kind of like that first night, where you find out a bit about them, and if you like them you carry on talking/seeing them.
Either way, that person can turn out to be a nut-job. I know plenty of people who have met partners in town (face to face as it were), seen them for a week or two and they have turned out not to be quite as the first impression seemed.
I also know a few people who have met long term partners via the internet, some of whom are now married.

Anybody else find it abit scary how much the internet is taking over everything, including dating, I'm only 19 but I've noticed my 15 year old sister and all her friends spend more time socialising online than actualy going out and meeting each other, I don't think i was ever like that.

Ive thought that as well. Same as with phones, any time I see schoolies they are all walking about texting, all the time. I sound like an old cunt but I remember the days when you had to go out to find your mates, or go round their house to see if they were in.
Nowadays folk would post on facebook "u in ur house yeh?", "yeh,cm c me"

Yeh I have to admitt I'm like that its just so easy to do now, but i think i'd actualy prefer having to go see my friends rather than just sending them a message, just doesn't seem to happen like that now though.

They had most of the wedding paid for as well. Makes me wonder why mine cost over 15 grand!

Counting up or counting down? lol
I think in this day and age where fewer people go out because of money or other reasons, or have less time to go out and meet because of work commitments, really the only options are to be set up by someone that knows someone else, or these dating sites.
I'm tempted to register me and see what mongs I get offered!

I met my ex/current on a forum 3 years ago.
She lived in spain but from peckham in london, and randomly added loads of poeple off this forum on msn, me being one of them. Never spoke for 4 months, then we started talking. Realised we're quite similar. Met each other loads of times, she aint a slag at all, far from it, lost our V with each other.
I moved to live in spain with her last year as a mercedes mechanic, was fine for a short while. But she said she lost her feelings for me after 2 years of being together.
Since Jul last year when i came back to England we've been talking but not loads just as mates. Had a big fall out in Jan, made us both realise now we're back on, and shes coming over here and we're moving out. Shes coming in April to sort stuff out.
Also made an online business with her. Tbh we do everything together if that sounds odd with it being abit of internet. Its nothing wierd as we know each other in person, she knows me more than anyone else any of my best mates.
All started with MSN lol

I met my last boyfriend on plenty of fish, and don't see anything wrong with online dating at all, you can chat to them, get to know them, go on webcam to make sure they are who they say they are, so no worries there, and only meet up when you're ready to and of course in a public place.
It is no different, in my opinion, to going out on the town and meeting someone.....it is a lot more popular than you'd think too.....and even though it didn't work with myself and my ex, he was the nicest guy I've ever been out with...so far lol
Oh yeah I also had already met him where he works, so knew who he was....

Exactly, you go to town drunk, meet a drunk girl/boy...i think thats hell of alot more frowned upon imo than meeting somone online and getting to know them. You havnt met them so you can be pretty honest (or lie completley which is the risk) without being embarressed etc. You get to know them in much more depth online, you can take your time and its easier to like fire them off if you dont like them.
Im more relaxed over the internet sorta thing, and not as shy. If i meet a girl on the internet il proper talk, if i meet a girl in person then im abit shy and dont even know where to start with talking. Unless im with other poeple i know then its awkward for me.

Yes totally agree with you mate.....I get what you're saying about not being so shy over the net too, I'm not really shy, a little, depends, but it is so much easier to say what you want over the net, sometimes maybe be misunderstood lol but yeah agree, it's way less risky too than meeting someone on a drunken night out :y:

You lucky feckers! Send some of that luck my way yeah? lol.... never 'got to know' a girl online and then meeting up - but I can see the attraction, as I'm a big wet willy when it comes to the confidence to waltz up to a girl and break the ice.
Cool thread and interesting read!
