mass meter question

just bought a new mass meter sensor for my almera as the last ones intake temp sensor wasn't even on the unit!

i have been told by my mechanic i need my engine management light to be cleared for the car to run properly (this is being done tomorrow morning)

would i be ok to fit the meter tonight and drive it to the garage fitted or is it best to wait until the codes cleared before running the car at all on the new meter?
