theres a lot of work involved in the preping! use a fine finishing filler to smooth over the rough surfice then rub down until smooth lots of prima then your top coat
my mate has done his feiste looks good and he did it all himself apart from the spraying!!

I started doing my doorcards and dash myself. It's not hard, just time consuming. I know places like Peugeot Ecosse took £2K to smooth and paint a dash a couple of months ago smileys/smiley3.gif. Most decent bodyshops would do it for aroung £600-700 I think.
Have a go yourself with a door panel and see how it goes...just don't expect to have any fingerprints left at the end of it smileys/smiley17.gif
The way I've been doing it is:
1. go over the surface with 80 grit sandpaper to get rid of most of the 'elephant skin' effect.
2. Then go over it with 250 grit wet & dry sandpaper to smooth out the scratches from the 80.
3. Spray a coat of primer over it to fill in the valleys.
4. Sand again with the 250 till the top layer of primer is away and your left with just the valleys filled in with primer.
Then you just keep sanding then priming, gradually working up the sandpaper levels till its perfectly smooth and you can paint smileys/smiley2.gif
