Hi there, I taxed the mondeo online for the first time today, it expired yesterday. Does anyone know if I'm ok to drive it before the tax disc turns up? Am I ok to just take the confirmation letter with me to say I've paid for it? I know that you are supposed to display a valid tax disc really. Cheers

I think so yeah if you have the confirmation letter, but I'm not 100% sure, so don't quote me on that.....go online and ask, they usually have faq's so someone must have asked that question before :y:

As far as I am aware you have to display the tax disc to be able to drive legally.

If you have paid and have a confirmation letter I assume you're good. It's all done online these days and as long as it's in their system you wont be flagged on any CCTV cameras you may pass!
My 2 pence.

Technically you need the disk, in practice, you won't.
I would avoid parking on the street though as you may get a ticket, which will mean going to court with your documents, you'll be found guilty of failing to display, which nearly always carries no fine.
If you're pulled they'll check it on the database and see that it's paid so won't worry you with it.

Thanks guys. I thought I'd heard back when I worked in the motor trade that they would let you drive for a couple of days whilst waiting for it to arrive to encourage more people to tax online. Just checked their FAQs and found this
I have not received the tax disc. Can I use the vehicle without the tax disc displayed?
When you apply for a tax disc online or by using our phone service you are able to legally continue to drive your vehicle for up to 5 days after the tax disc has expired while you wait for the new tax disc to arrive. This will only apply when you have applied for a new tax disc before the current one expires. You should continue to display the expired disc on your vehicle, until the new one arrives.
I should of thought to look at the FAQs really lol. It just shows that being a mummy frys your brain lol. So it looks like I can't drive it because I didn't apply for it before it expired which is a pain as it only expired yesterday

The law states you now have 5 working days to get it displayed - to allow time for those who order online for it to arrive.

If you prefer to tax in the last few days of the month, there is now an exemption from the offence of not displaying a tax disc. This exemption covers the first five working days of the month and allows time for the new disc to arrive in the post.

I would usually go to the PO but that means going to the hassle of getting my 9mth old twins ready and out which is a like a small military operation lol, then having to stand in a queue of people who will ask me the stupid questions that go along with twins like "are they twins?" and when they find out they are theres the stupid comments like "are they brothers?" "are they both yours?" "they can't be identical, he has redder cheeks" or "he smiles more" then there are the more irritating "double trouble", "you've got your handsful" and "buy one get one free" lol. It's easier to just do it online and be without the car for a couple of days lol

Haha :p atleast they're friendly people your way though.
Surely you can pay for it like a week before online, so you'd recieve it in the post before the tax runs out...? I don't know cos I've never done it. But it's the same principle as getting it done at the P.O so I assume that would be the case.

i done the same on my saxo yesterday when it was 27th i thought oh got a few days but of course its feb init
anyway as said earlier it will be ok as you are in theory taxed but if a traffic warden sees it could give you a ticket! all the police will know your taxed on the pc system though,
but you used to get done £50 for failing to display years ago i guess its still in force but being able to do it online and latest technology failing to display should be scrapped imo
