I think this is bloody awful.

At the moment as most of you will know, the unions represented by uni lecturers/tutors are involved in industrial action over pay.

At our uni, we've just had the rumours confirmed that none of our assignments will be marked (i.e grades given out) until this action has ended - date as yet unknown.

I believe, as this is all to do with the unions, it is a nation-wide situation and so will affect all of you currently doing essays, assignments etc. Correct me if i'm wrong.

Just wanted to gauge your reaction to this - i personally think that using our assignments as fuel for their industrial fire is damn well out of line, especially as (most) people spend a lot of time and effort on their assignments.

Well I've just handed in a 20,000 word Physical Chemistry Assignment and if I don't get a mark i'm gonna go fcuking crazy! 4 weeks that took me.......

I'm supposedly just off to uni now to hand in a science assignment, and the science lecturer herself told us she's not grading us until their union action is over.

So i feel rather inclined not to bother. Grr!!

It's at times like this i feel like writing to to my MP!

I've only missed one lecture because of it so far which isn't too bad. One of my lecturer's who isn't part of the union seems to think they will mark the essays because if they don't they will have a huge backlog over the summer. They will just withhold the marks

It is shit though. I've got a friend who has to hand in an essay redemption before easter to pass the module. If they don't mark it she won't know if she's passed and can go on to the next academic year smileys/smiley5.gif

it is absolutely shocking. The assignment marking rumour is also going round at edinburgh uni. I would have thought that the university would have some sort of contingancy (sp) plan for this sort of event, but so far things have been a bit rough round here. Our lectures are constantly getting shifted as a result of the walkout last week, and there has been a definate slowdown in marking coursework. Up here there has even been talk of postponing or even cancelling exams! smileys/smiley3.gif Apparently if the situation doesnt get sorted within 4 weeks from now this could happen, and grades will have to be given out based entirely on coursework, thats just word of mouth though, hope its not true smileys/smiley5.gif

One girl in my class asked if we could fail because of this and the lecturer said "No you can't fail, but then you can't pass either" smileys/smiley22.gif

yup same as i started the thread lastweek - they have said they wont our exam papers which means we wont be able to progress into the third year which may possibly mean paying to do the 2nd year again

our college work was late getting sent off to be marked and cause of this some missed out on the uni dates
