Hi i am going to be 17 very soon and i was just wondering if anybody knows how much the insurance would be under my mums name. Her as the main driver and car in her name and me as a named driver on a saxo vtr she will be driving the car more than me so it is not fronting and she is also wants his ncb protected as she don't trust me as she has 25 years ncb.
Thanks

Over a grand definitely maybe just shy of 1500 would be my guess, try all the comparison sites, ALL combinations, also try changing little things like number of miles per year, "modify" your occupation so bend the truth a bit, try adding more named drivers e.g your dad, basically just keep trying to find the cheapest price. Also try the companies that dont show up on comparison sites like direct line as ive found them to be quite cheap on young named drivers and you also get a no claims discount as a named driver but only if you stick with them.

Oh yeah and also try and callup the cheaper companies and try to blag down their price a little bit, admiral group are ok for this

good luck :y:

Quinn Direct would probably be the best option mate, they were my insurer for my first year.

Get a furio mate, will be a hell of alot cheaper, then keep it for a few yr then get a VTR/S

Jesus!!! Out of interest I got a quote from the co-operative after seeing this thread... Got a quote from Quinn supposidly being the cheepest for over £1700 on my dads policy but with me as the main driver. thats roughly £170 a month with a downpayment of over £300 (can't remember exact figures)

Got a quote from Coop just now for £1006 a year!!!! Absolutly over the moon to say the least. I'm going to be saving around £100 a month from what I would have been paying.

Chuffed? I think so

Oh incase you're wondering, my dad is the documented owner and is the policy holder. I'm just the main driver so everythings legit and not fronting :)

Adrian flux just quoted me £909 fully comp for a VTS if i get one, also do mods like alloys lowering tinted windows etc add much to insurance and does it really matter if you don't declare them?

Hiya,

All modifications need to be declared to your insurance company.

Please feel free to PM me your surname, postcode and a contact telephone number and I will have a look and see if those modifications will make much difference to your quote.

Thanks
Dan

if you dont declare the mods to your insurance company then you cannot claim on your insurance if you crash etc. is this correct?

Thats true mate. Some people will tell you stories about how they or a mate got away with it by the insurance company just paying out for the standard parts etc...
But really the top and bottom is if you dont declare they won't pay out! There are a huge number of threads about it which will give you alot of information about it all :)

One of which is at the top of this forum sub section, the FAQ sticky! :y:

don't see the point in taking the chance by not telling them, only gonna end up worse for you

not worth taking the risk with not declaring your mods to insurance company.
