just got my missus an x plate 01saxo 1.1 yesterday from a friend that owed me money

the missus is pleased with it but today we went to go from wales to devon in it and the following happened

started as per normal and drove about 10 miles to motorway (normal driving not racing or anything like that)
got on the motorway and got the car upto about 80 mph and alls fine

about 30 miles up the motorway while going around a slight corner with a little acceleration in 5th i felt a verry slight judder

thought was road conditions as on the strait was fine

over the next few miles things got worse and i turned around to go home

now i can drive it localy (upto 30 mph light load) with verry little judder

but if you do about 50 mph and give it some welly in 5th its shuddering vberry bad i noticed if the car is in 4th and you hold the gear lever firmly that is juddering when you put the car under load

it does do it in all gears but more noticable in 4th or 5th

same as for a strait road its there but more noticeable when going uphill around a bend

i have also noticed when changing from 3rd to 4th or 4th to 5th there is a slight clunk (metalic) and also that same clunk when you "dap" the throttle wile in gear

is there any known issues with these cars?

i am thinking mabe engine mount/warped shaft/cv joint
but wont know till i have a look tomorow

just some pointers/issues for the saxo would be great

thanks for looking / help

forgot to say i allready checked the wheel nuts were tight and the tyres didnt seam deformed
(but jacking up and spinning them should narrow this down tomorow)

progressively noticable juddering as you increase in speed sounds very much like a wheel balancing issue but with the other symtoms you mention i cant really be sure that that is having the major issue tho

yes i know its early days and also thought mabe the wheels but you can go up/down hills turn left right ect an no judder at all only when the car is under load it happenes.

going down hill and touching the throttle to get to about 80 mph is fine

as soon as the road levels off and you throttle it slightly it will judder and the more throttle you give it the more fierce the judder

thanks for the comments

update smileys/smiley5.gif

drivers side inner cv joint is wasted

but looking at the drive shaft i seen scrapyard writing on it 50/50 01 in yellow

so under further looking the drivers side wheel is misaligned

on the passenger side i get 50mm between tyre and bumper and the wheel arch all nice and equal

on drivers side i get 60mm between tyre and bumber and 40mm between the tyre and inner wing

am i right in thinking this 10mm the wheel has pushed back is chewing the drive shaft?

as its had a smash and a new shaft been fitted and thats gone allready

note the car has a gen milage of 22,000
so its not like its been on there for ages cause i was offered this car over a year ago and it had just over 20,000 or 21,000 then

thanks
