Anyone doing this/interested in doing it?
Looks a cheap way into entry level motorsport..

Try reading the rules and regs, then see if it's cheap ;)
no motorsport is cheap to get into
the standard the car has to be at will cost a few £k
MSA standard race suit
race boots
race gloves
helmet
all equals over £500
plus the cost of actually racing per event
tyres and other perishable parts
race licence
the list goes on...

What part are you referring to?

The whole part of the rules and regs, read the PDF document
i listed a few things that you'll need to be eligable to compete, i read it a while back and it's a big list of things that you need
the fact is, in every race series the regulations have to be tight by law. which means a lot of cost involved.
+ races are 45mins long, you'll need some awesome tyres / brake pads / talent to keep going for that long

I posted that before i saw your edit.
Granted its not pennies but even for karting you are looking at that for your boots, helmet, overalls etc...
It is cheap in comparison to other series' ive looked at. With so many people building 'track slags', they'd be halfway there.

Not true, they arent made to meet any regulations
building a track day car is completely different to an actual track car ;)
read from 5.3 onwards on the PDF
it doesnt say the exact requirements, if anything it seems a little vague. but either way your looking at quite a few £k to get your self / the car up to standard. thats not including the parts that'll need replacing each race, such as tyres, brakes etc
+ it can cost up to £400 for entry to each race

I have scanned the whole document.
''The races are designed for teams of two drivers, so that the costs of running the car can be shared - together with the excitement! The regulations for the cars are reasonably relaxed, with three power to weight classes, so that drivers who have already developed cars for trackdays without having to follow any rules will be eligible. The emphasis will be on having fun in a safe and controlled environment with like minded novice racers.''
I reckon excluding the car, your looking at 2k. It seems that regs are quite vague as there arent too many.

Karting is a lot cheaper.
You can get all the kit for under £300
My team pays £400 a race for 3 hours of racing on an arrive and drive so we dont have to maintain the kart. We run 2-3 drivers so it works out not a lot.
As for whether a car can hold up for 45mins. I've trackday'ed a standard 205 rallye for 45mins none stop without trouble. As long as you are not scrubbing speed off while cornering tyres can last a long time. Brake pads - well buy the right ones :P Proper suspension will limit weight transfer which helps massively.
Racing a car is massively more expensive though than karting which is why I'm not rushing to move to it just yet!

Reasonably relaxed compared to other race series yes
relaxed in terms of "cheap", nope. but then i guess it depends on your definition of cheap, one mans million is another mans penny (as the saying goes)
it looks like a good series, but it'll cost more than they make out.

interesting
only worry is... to many inexperienced drivers with big egos maybe?
also may start relatively cheap but that desire to be lewis h may take over and cost you alot, either your wallet or your head in a tyre wall ;)

More experienced than your average trackday racer as they'll have a race license.

It's not hard to get a race licence lol,
think of it as a road licence, how many tards do you see that have passed their test
it doesnt make you a competant driver

It would be cool to see a few of the TB'd cars on here compete though and see how well they do

brands
snetterton
silverstone
4th isnt confirmed yet
it's measured at the wheels, so the likes of toad / ryan / lewis could compete in the 200bhp per ton class probably (of course if they wanted to)
quite a few cars on here could be competetive in the 150 class.
It'll be mostly just track day drivers too, so unlikley to have any major talent that'll own the track

Does not look that cheap. You still have to pass your ards, have a up to date licence, have a up to date race suit, up to date race loves, up to date race shoes, up to date race helmet, have a race prep race to MSA safety requirements, be a club member, pay for the races and pay for any repairs. Its as expensiveness as any other series. It even looks likes you have to share your car with another driver??? so if you don't crash it odds are they will lol. I would recommend looking at some of the other classes out there. I would say start by having a look at the 750MC. OR better still sprint racing is a nice cheap way to start. You don't even have to have the race licence to do that. How about karts? There great fun and the lower classes are not a bad price at all.

I realse that it's not hard to get a race license lol but the people who have are generally more experienced than those who turn up to a trackday in they're nova, no?
Also, you will need upto date boots, helmet, overalls in whatever motorsport you do.
I have done some karting and I understand that it's cheaper. I was suggesting that this was a cheap way Into motorsport other than karting. I also thoght that BEng able to share a car with a mate was a plus.
