They are extremely solid cars, a couple mates own the GT TDi models and both are on beyond 100k miles and still pull very strongly and give great economy. Only downsides are they look extremely boring and inside is about as exciting as a funeral..
Although i would say a few subtle mods (if you wanted to) would spruce it up nicely
Double Din headunit space, get a DVD Player in there!

i love mine, but always wanted a MK4, and have loved golfs all my life.......
depends what you want out of the car.....mines not done up or anything, but dont want it to be.......seen some done up and they look hideous, like "wtf you done to that" cringe.
some nice alloys and some decent sub n amp would go down a treat for me, but im not bothered! more things to spend me money on, ie PARTYIN :)
aye they heavy, but reliable..... but you cant just base that as a bad point, really, most new cars these days are massive, chunky, and hideous!!!
would love a gti like, but beggars cant be choosers....lol

and being inside a saxo is like a theme park is it? but yes the diesels are boring to drive but if your not bothered about fuel costs the petrols are better options

If you get the 130 these are very tunable.
My aunty may still have her 130 for sale if you'd like me to enquire. All i can tell you is it is one owner from new, silver, she ticked all the worthwhile extras, has full VAG service history and goes like f*ck.

get the gt tdi 150 and get it mapped, will be good for 200bhp then with loads of torque,
my mate has one and it flys for a diesel and still mint on fuel, though its deffo a motorway car and not nearlly as fun as a paxo tbh..

my friend had a gt tdi, had been remapped, exhaust system, nice wheels, dvd played, sold it after about 6 months saying it was the most boring car to drive in the world

Harrow, this would be my specialty then.
i went from a VTS to a golf GT TDI 115PS with the optional extra winter pack which consists of heated seats, heated mirrors and head light cleaners aswell as a few other bits.
i can honestly say its the best car i have owned to date. it is very solid to drive and with a few basic mods (35mm springs, 225 18s, 2.25 inch down pipe and a generic re map) they fly!
the last time mine ran it made 147 hp, which isnt a lot by todays standards but it has 290 lbs ft of torque!
with the same torque as a standard R32 skyline it pulls through the gears like a train!
i have the 6 speed box and even at 70 mph on a motorway in 6th, when you plant it it still throws you back in your seat!
the heated seats are a god send on cold mornings and the car is very comfortable inside. they are brilliant cars and worth every penny IMO.
models to look for are the PD engined 115, 130 and 150 hp engines. the best one to get is a PD130.
jabba sport do a package which is a direct fit for the 130s. it consists of a hybrid 150 turbo and a live map, im not 100% on the cost but just a hybrid and a live map gets you a steady 190hp and 400 lbs ft of torque!
Get one honestly, you wont look back
