Hi people,
I had my car lowered around a year ago now and shortly after getting this done (40mm) I put new tyres on the front... now only a year on im having to replace these as the inside edges of both are not legal...

They were toyo proxies so i dont think they are the worst tyres... Does anyone else have this problem??

thanks

Chris

if its lowered they will tend to wear abit quicker ont inside.

When you lower a car, no matter which, you will always induce a slight increase in neg camber which will cause the inside of the tyre to wear quicker

okay thanks, probs got 5mm on the outside though and 1 on the inside.. thats a sharp decline in a year is it not??

Check the wishbones.

Proxes are a pretty soft compound though... if you use the car fairly hard, I don't think they'd be expected to last very long anyway.

Stuff like perished wishbone bushes can also promote uneven wear. If you feel something is definitely wrong, get the wheel alignment checked and have them check the front suspension for play.

Okay thanks people, expensive month i think... good road tyres for the vtr 14's??

yeah they will wear slightly more on the inside. This is because lowering the front causes the car to have a slight negative camber angle. Its not that much, but would effect how the tyres wear.

Hope this helps

When I had my VTR I kept on with the Michi Pilots (what you got new) Lasted ages, but they were expensive. Avons are a soft compound so avoid them. I use Yokohamas on my 15" VTS and they seem to be pretty good, although they are a bit slippy in the wet.

Lowering it 40mm will not induce anywhere near enough camber to cause that angle of wear.

When you lower it, the change in steering geometry toes the wheels out. This is what's killed your tyres. Get your track sorted before you fit new ones and it'll all be fine.

Saxo's are meant to have 2mm toe out +/-1mm. I went for 1mm out and my tyres are wearing flat.

right... took my car to quickfit today and they put my 4 tyres on for me.. whilst there i asked if they could check the tracking and take the camber out slightly to stop the inside wearing...

they told me I need to go to a specialist to get it tracked as they cant do saxos??? he was being genuine, but am i right in thinking he was wrong??

Cheers

He was being a cunt as you have to do a tiny bit mroe extra work on a Saxo compared to a normal car

his bad then. lost my money- sure he said something about a bolt up by the shock???

VTRelite

basically you gotta remove the airbox so you can get access to the bolts on the inner part of the track rod

And if its lowered alot of people wont track it since it wont get on ramps unless its a flat ramp.

Love it :)

positive camber increase when lowering should not cause 4mm difference inside to out, your car has too much toe out, a garage can correct this in about an hour if they have laser alignment tools (alot longer on the old optical type). they should be able to detect worn bushes etc wich can also cause uneven wear on he same tools.

tracking and make sure the right pressure is in the tyres
