brake problems!!

hi, every time i brake there is a loud scraping noise it sounds like metal on metal and just came on all of a sudden,i assume its the brake althoug i know nothing about cars, but if it was wud it be the brake pads or disk? thanks

Checked your pads recently? They could have fully worn away which will mean when you brake, metal will be pressed against metal, giving this loud scraping noise.
