Me.
My dad started the business like 17 years ago and i took over a few years back.
You have to make sure you are a very motivated person as if you sit on your arse you dont earn money lol
Anyone who says its easy is lying or not pushing themselves.
What is it your thinking of doing????

my mum had her own business,
you need draw upa business plan and got to the bank for a bank load with the business plan. for a bank loan, thats where she started.
i dont know how it works in england but in wales the welsh assembly will match the bank loan to start you off, and you dont need pay that bit back.

I am registered as self-employed in the building industry so technically I am my own boss when I find private jobs for myself. But, I mainly work with my 'boss' who contracts my in, but he's more of a mate than a Boss tbh
The main thing is you really do have to be motivated and enjoy what you're doing. Luckily I do. Otherwise you start slacking, jobs take ages to complete, and you dont get paid the days you don't work. You also don't get the bonuses of things such as holiday pay etc..

i worked my way up to senior craftsman / charge hand on site. sort of a management position but still working on site with the lads.
after that i thought about going self employed but the recession is still biting the construction trade hard.
a mate of mine who i have worked with for along time with a few different companies went self employed in my trade about 2 years ago. things have got that bad he is having to apply for jobs in holland as there is zero work over hear and wont be ffor the next couple of years.

It's weird how its affected areas differently in the building trade. I'm lucky not to have been out of work at all so far, and there are a lot of big projects in the pipeline as well

im a sparky by trade but hate the job tbh
i could go self employed but doing domestic work is a big NO
im working in sheffield at the moment and saw a franchise i could be interested in but when i looked into it i was shocked by what they wanted to start up!
it was in the retail industry
i have never done anything like this and have been on building sites for the last 10 years

im a plumber, pipefitter welder (class 2 coded arc welder)
its mental how bad it has affected pipe fitting. when i finished my apprenticeship a few years ago i kept in touch with all the lads. there were about 24 of us altogether.
ive been speaking to some of them and unfortunately one lad passed away so out of the 23 of us left 8 are employed. everyone else has been laid off and cant find work including my self.
i am now a student again studying for my HNC in building services until were out of the recession. (about 5 years or so)

ive worked for alot of companies. milner build, mitton mechanical services, hayden young (now balfour beatty construction services) shepherds engineering services. then when i got out of my time i went to work at a company called tru arc and from there went on to a mates pipe fitting company called reliance building services who mostly subbed out to airedale.
i finished there in august last year and i started studying for my ONC / HNC. im currently enjoying the student life which is a walk in the part compared to getting 300kg water heaters up stair cases by hand lol.

Yeh you need degrees and stuff which there are jobs available within the company to do them and they pay etc. Jobs like schemes engineers, planning co-ordinating and monitoring road works etc. Got offered it but they opted for someone with more experience who ended up cocking it up then begged me to do it, just told them to jog on lol
Thing is got ADHD and feel uncomfortable sitting for periods of time in the same place and attention span is shit. Hence why i didnt go to uni in the first place .... :s
