View Full Version : Jamie's detailng rant

Jamie

Im getting quite irritated by believe it or not family and friends.

Ignorance i believe its down to.

I detail my car or other cars spend most of a day on one family/friends see the result and agree its amazing.

Yet im still questioned and laughed at as to why i bother.

'Once its clean its clean why bother' - Hmm maybe because i get some sort of satisifaction from the results?

'take it to the cossavons it will look the same and for £5'

Im now therfore deem'd clinically insane, and sad oh an apparently going to end up being one of these retards that have sex with my exhaust(s)...

How do i explain why i do what i do? And im left questioning myself, is it all really worth it?

Its just so irritating.

They all love it when i get the g220 out on scuffs and remove them when it would cost alot at a bodyshop ect yet they still mock me.

Oh and my personal favorite, 'it's just a saxo what is the point?'

I tend to show them have bad their cars are, tell them how its affecting its resale value and then laugh when they ask me to give it some tlc.

Lol I was going to start a thread like this the other day

Like how do you justify how long it takes and the processes you do. Because my familys cars are newer than mine, when they go for their cosovo expresso wash there car comes back looking just as good as mine (because mine already has the swirl marks from previous owners)

The worst is when they ask me why I dont just use the "spray'n'shine" , "you dont need water you know"

Oh dear.

Todays Sun has actually quite dissapointed me. I thought my paintwork was pretty good. Until the sun came out today then I realised its in major need of a machine polish.

No one seems to think it does affect resale value, they laughed at me more when i said that.

I think people who spend 3 hours+ every weekend have an obsession... not a hobby - it's just not needed

Tell them your a detailer not a valeter

simples as there two totally different levels of cleaning

Also tell them your looking after your investment as it will pay off in the future

I spend a fair bit of time on cars, and tbh i dont care if its an obsession if im getting paid good money to do something i love then bonus, also people who crave perfection will stop at nothing until the job is spot on!, also i think it boils down to personal pride , makes me smile when i see my car in a shop window as i drive past!;)

Haha thats what me and our kid say to each other when we are taking the piss out of each other lolz

Seriously though i see why you get annoyed dude, same thing happens with me and probably most other people who take on detailing as a hobby (but take it very seriously)

I tend to show them have bad their cars are, tell them how its affecting its resale value and then laugh when they ask me to give it some tlc.

This is exactly how i respond too!

I get the same mate, tbh my family/gf understand why i clean it etc, but some of neighbours say 'You out cleaning again', but i think they understand wen they come back out and its mint.
it doesnt bother me what people think tbh, aslong as your happy thats the main thing. At the end of the day we put alot of money and effort getting our cars how you want them, so imo it should look good/clean:y:,if anything its probably jelousy mate.

what frustrates me is when people say, "its just a car, why are you pampering it like a human being?" I do admit i do get abit obcessive at times, for eg i wont drive my car in the rain and will always park it up in the garage as i dont want the weather damaging it....i have no idea why i do this though, its just an obcession i guess

Whats even more annoying is the fact that we take s00o0o0o0 much time on taking care off our cares and spending lots of money on them to make them perfect, and yet we are the first to get pulled by the police cause its lowered with a louder exhaust!!

Nobody understands why we do this unless they do it themselves :y:

No offence but that does sound a bit like OCD - believe it or not the rain won't dissolve/melt your car.

Yes i have been told i have a case of OCD, something i cant really stop in all honesty.....im sure some are like that though about their pride and joy? An eg, my cars currently in the bodyshop, i told them not to leave the car outside as the car has been in dry storage for the last 2 years, they left it out when uk was hit with snow, i wasnt happy to say the least, had a rant and they have it inside ever since....may sound strange to people :(

Not at all dude. My car's paintwork is far from mint but i hate driving it in the wet and religiously clean it once a week atleast.
