lowering

does anyone know if youcan fit springs (lowering) to a westy while keeping the standard shocks i read somewhere that theycan onlybe used with shortened ones.
reason is i can't afford a full suspension upgrade.

i just used 60mm springs with the same shocks and mines fine now 6 months on
