im guessing the points will be for having no brake lights and the handbrake (not just the handbrake) as it would count as an MOT failure meaning it was considered unroad worthy. were all your brake lights out?

think its perfectly fine to get what you did. car was unroadworthy.

Only your brake lights not working, no biggie. fail

Yep unfortunately as mentioned above the car would be classed as unroadworthy so 3points and a fine is quite justified imo.

if your brake lights were working the coppers wouldnt have known a thing!so unlucky there. if you were on a hill, putting it in gear would have stopped it moving when the engines off??????

You'd have had more than a fine if I'd run into the back of you because of a lack of brake lights. Count yourself lucky ;)

She wouldn't, she'd have been fine as it's quite difficult to prove that the brake lights weren't working at the time of the accident. It would have been down to the poor bastard that went into her and she'd have got off with a non-fault accident and compensation for a stiff neck.

3 points and £60 is a fortunate result. Personally, I'd have the car lifted and impounded if I had a blue uniform. No brakes lights is a pretty serious issue

No no mr David, they do CSI shit on the lights and can tell if they were on at the point of accident.

i thought they could tell because if the lights were on and the casing and bulb is smashed, the filament is exposed to oxygen and burns out?

Btw, thanks for making our roads a dangerous place luv...

I know they can do that Viper/hellonpluto however I don't think they do it too often, unless they suspsect a big insurance scam or someone was badly hurt.

trackjace - what the fuck have you been upto?

Viper

ahh right, fair enough

The checking of the filaments is like checking mobile phone records, and traffic cameras. It can be done, but usually only if its a fatal RTC.

how on earth do you use a car without a handbreak? what about when you park?

Viper
17th March 2010, 10:28
put it in gear... Or use other cars to roll back onto?

is it true you get on the spot fines for having a light out? compared to a 14 day period for you to change it and get an MOT station to stamp that its been done and for you produce?

lol i think she expected sympathy coming on here and telling everyone about this " horrific" thing thats happened to her, personally i think the coppers were right to do so.

The fine is not nice but at least you have been alerted to a serious defect.

if you where out at night with not even 1 brake light then u deserved it tbh , but if it was day with 1 of them working that tight as fuck tbh , and as mentioned u can put the car in gear to act like a handbrake .. it isnt hard to make sure you dont park on a hill :S

Slammed_Posi_Vtr
17th March 2010, 15:03
They had to give some sort of punishment tbh otherwise everyone would drive around without brake lights and handbrakes.

At least this will have taught you a lesson and you can avoid it happening again in future.

Did you know before they pulled you over that your brake lights were out?

Noope I didnt even noo ..
and its not even the bulbs that have gone .. something dodgyy on my circuit boards

but the points and fine were for just having no handbrake !!!
brake lights was a seperate 30 pound fine but he let me off ....
and when ive parked ive been wacking it in 1st and ramming it in2 a kirb ..

i think its a good idea that police now have the power to void ur m.o.t coz cars that aren't road worthy (like mine) wont be on the road until there fixed :D

Hope you learn't your lesson, if your car is unworthy for the road, then dont drive it on the road. simple

if all of the brake lights arent working then you will probably find the switch on the brake pedal mechanism has gone, my bro has this on his, only a couple of quid to fix

Never nice getting 3 points and a £60 fine but it also wouldn't be nice slamming into the back of someone because they had no brake lights.

they dont have the power to void your MOT .at time of them stopping you there telling you the fault in hope you will get them done you still have a valid MOT

No they now have the power to void your m.o.t

No..... this is only if your car is seriously un road-worthy.
They can't void your M.O.T for having a faulty brake light.
You have to get it fixed ASAP.

If they void it at the road side, you wouldnt be able to drive it home... or even to a garage

certainly do. When the lights are hot and then glass smashes particales stick to the hot metal element in the bulb.
Was on some cop program where a lorry hit a car killing the women driver.
