View Full Version : My wheel spraying service (updated)

Craig
21st March 2006, 23:28
Now i have sprayed a few sets of wheels in my time as i have learned at college how to do it,

i was talking to luke(westie) and he said i should consider offering a service to sax-p members, where in exchange of there wheels i give them a set of steelies to run on.

Now as the only time i get to spray the wheels/prepare them is on week nights and weekends for a set of 4 wheels depending.. take me from 2/3 weeks to do.

Sax-p members - Basic cost will be £15.00 per wheel + paint costs with sax-p discount

i would charge for this service and ask for the paint to be bought as of what was needed and colour peffered.

heres a of examples of my work

My Rover charcoal vts wheels

My Citroen Polar white vtr rims (im in middle of) for track

http://i5.photobucket.com/albums/y175/craig17furio/My%20Furio/P3210037.jpg

as all you guys know i have had my vts rims on through most of winter and the paint is just like new, as i do a proper job smileys/smiley17.gif

I spray the whole wheel on the inside too!

which includes sanding down to bare metal, 4 coats of lacquer, body filler to fix minor kurbed wheels, 4 coats of colour of paint and last 4 coats of clear lacquer which really buils up a strong layer on the wheels

thanks for you time guys,

if anyone would like to enquire please feel free to drop me a pm

You've done a good job there

shouldn't you be charging a bit more considering its gonna take up to 3 weeks of your time?

Craig
22nd March 2006, 00:22
i should but as its sax-p the members get a discount,

beware though the basic charge of 15.00 per wheel is for vtr/vts wheels,

price may change on more complex aftermarket etc!

and the price of the paint is added on top

Craig
22nd March 2006, 00:27
i can offer a meet halfway service for anyone considering but please send me enquirey by pm

Good idea mate. I was thinking of doing something like this for a few friends locally.. got a bit of time on my hands at the mo. Only thing I could fault is the slight bits of paint on the tyres! Just find something good to cover the tyres up.

Craig
23rd March 2006, 01:50
its the one and only first one i have ever managed to get paint on tyres not to worry as there aint no paint on em anymore smileys/smiley17.gif

barrett
23rd March 2006, 03:07
£20, for paint. Is that for all of them or per wheel?

Craig
23rd March 2006, 03:09
roughly for paint needed for 4 wheels

MikeCracknell
23rd March 2006, 03:14

yeah but he says he is pretty busy, it might not take 3 weeks, but hes just giving people notice that it could take that long and he has enough time so he doesnt have to rush

tombay
23rd March 2006, 20:48

Just a quick question carig where did you get the spray gun from?

Craig
23rd March 2006, 22:15
i got it from halfords just the spray gun itself, i run it off a little electric air compresser, that build the pressure up in the air line and switches on and off

craig i think you should change your website a bit in the phrases
'can offer an exchange basis, which offers you the chance of swapping wheels (to be worked on) for a temporary set of steel wheels, so your still kept mobile',what happens if you get a set of vauxhall wheels to do,do you have wheels for a vauxhall, this is just a suggestion, your site looks good aswell

Not having a go at your work or anything Craig but thought i would give you some advice!

When you paint wheels you SHOULD take the tyres off, i would never paint wheels with tyres on for one main reason. If you just mask up to the tyre and paint you may have the problem or the paint flaking if the paint hasn't stuck 100% or the owner kurbs them. If you take the tyres off and paint right up over the lip of the wheel.

The finish of your painting also looks abit poor. Im not having ago at you at all mate, just giving you some advice. Are you using 2pac or celly paints?

The key to a super smooth finish is in the prep work, on some of the pics it shows that your getting some quite big imperfections. You should add more primer and wet sand it right back. I give them 3 coats of 2pac high build, wet sand and then give them another 2 lighter coats of primer and wet sand again.

Then you can start painting colour and clear and the finish will be smooth like glass.

Also, are you painting the backs of the wheels?

Chris!

Craig
14th June 2006, 09:19
hey , u must remember im not working in a spray booth matey, but thanks for the advice i do them in my spare time, im not doing it as a professional, im doing as a cheaper alternative for guys on here, thanks

Sidesport
14th June 2006, 09:21
Thats cool, but you dont need a spray booth to get a super smooth finish in the prep mate!

Are you using 2pac or celly paints?

Chris

Craig
14th June 2006, 09:22
celly mate

Sidesport
14th June 2006, 09:24
That propably why your getting some imperfections buddy! As celly stays abit soft rather than 2pac going hard and being more hardwearing.

But the more you do the better you will get, its all about experience.

Good luck!

Chris

yeh can only improve, but im happy with the results and so are other people so its pretty good
