Tax prices go up from 1st of April so if your car is due before then make sure you get a 1 year ticket to save a few quid :y:

For example - VTS:

If registered before march 2001: price now is £190 but £205 from next month

If registered after march 2001 (Y reg onwards): price is £215 but will be £245 from next month.

why is it so much higher after 2001?

Mieran
18th March 2010, 17:22
Because it goes by the engine's emissions not size.

Pre march 2001 it was 2 groups, one price for anything under 1.5 and one price for anything over 1.5

Cars are taxed on emissions rather than engine size.

Tax for 2001+ VTRs is only going up ~£5 I believe - lower emissions.

Mieran
18th March 2010, 17:31
For VTR:

Pre march 2001: its £190 now and will be £205
After march 2001: £150 now and £155 next month

i wouldnt mind paying car tax so much if the government spent it on making the roads better, but they would rather use the cheapest materials possible and spend the rest on cleaning their moats and buying porn.

it is unreasonable,

If you have a C1/107/Aygo or Fiat 500 or something like that you only have to pay 35 quid.

All part of the 'green initiative'. Seems like they're trying to price people off the roads in a bid to promote car sharing, public transport etc.

I'm happy to pay £200+ if the roads are in good condition... little chance of that though.

Could be the start of the end for the internal combustion engine. :|

wtf is it with all this environmental shit its obviously a naturally accuring thing that happens to the world granted we havent helped but we are not the cause so taxing us for something thats natural might as well tax us for breathing air , even if engine fumes are the main cause why should we pay for somthing the govenment has allowed to get out of control over the years not like its only just started to happen is it,
cant see the govenment mps paying tax for their big engined cars should make them drive in aygos and 500s bet they would stop raising the tax then..

the way this country is looking money wise global warming shouldnt be the least of their worries imo if they just said we need to raise taxes to recoop money and bring country back on its feet then id say fair enough because i can see the benefit but i dont see what throwing money at useless schemes that will help generations long after we are gone.

Oh I understand why 16V's before 2001 are cheaper to tax, it's because they didn't test before then so they just have the basic below 1549cc £125 and after 1549cc £205.

Seems a bit bollocks If you own a VTS/GTI after 2001 tbh.

leeroybrown
18th March 2010, 20:28

i know its well confusing :panic:, but all 1.1's stay the same £125, but it does not say anything about 6 months so presume its the same too :S 1.1 ftw :P

Predator_R32
18th March 2010, 22:54
Absolute bullshit potholes all over and paying more tax

245 for a year on a golf, not bad but still a rip off, if thats the case then the petrol prices should go down

You can check exactly what you will pay on parkers

From the 1st May a years tax will cost me £405 lmao.. just as well I'm taxing it tomorrow for the whole year, should save a bit.

So damn expensive, they're making it harder to own a nice car these days :(

VTR-GAZzA
18th March 2010, 23:10
for these prices you'd expect them to give you a tax disc holder and a free top up of petty lol

Reechard
18th March 2010, 23:45
Bloody rip off.
If they actually fixed the roads and kept them in good condition I wouldnt mind as much, or even if it went to schools and the nhs.
But it will go to those on the dole who wont look for work!

18th March 2010, 23:50
Glad mines pre 2001 but question does this mean some of the money will be pay for the potholes? lol

I know a retired man (he's minted, to be fair) who's had heart problems in the past... drives an E39 BMW 540 (the 4.4 litre V8) - you guessed it, tax exempt! Where's the logic in that? :wall:

tuft
19th March 2010, 10:33
I'll be paying £180 for a 1.6 Volvo and my old man will be payin £205 for a 4.0 V8 TVR?
where's the logic in that?

It is shocking that the prices are going up and as people have already said the roads are an absolute disgrace!! We are paying more out on our cars because of the roads, flat tyres etc. They are happy to take your money but not actually do anything constructive for what we are paying for :rage:

CampDavid
19th March 2010, 15:09
So all three cars on the road will be £615 a year. FML

This was in Newmarket which is close to a couple of bases (and Thetford aka shithole!).
