The other night was out with the bf, got pulled persumed cause his car looks like something off fast and furious, came over to check the car for insurance etc, came up apparently no insurance?! It did have insurance, checked the tyres and the back had no tread due to him drifting police man also accidently cut his hand on the tyre ? How we don't know? Got him for not having a horn on his car to, basically turned the car upside down, got cautioned, 6 points and a lecture about if he had an accident and I died he'd get 15 years for dangerous driving! And also a court appearance! Also couldn't then move the car till his back tyres were changed, and has to have a MOT test to now to make sure his car is road worthy! Understand the tread of the tyres but the rest is bull, typical jap car and you get slated by the bill!

why is it bull? the cars not road worthy, thats what an MOT is for....and what do you expect the tyre condition to be like with "drifting" antics?, most probably on public roads aswel, boils my blood

What car is it?
If the tyres are bald he could of cut it on a fraid metal string inside the tyre that was pokeing out.
If its an import it should of had an mot type test prior to it going on the road where the horn would of being tested

If the cop, cut his hand on the tyre, it must have been fucked cause it would be on the wire. Must of been some sick ass drifting down maccies to get them that fucked.

Does he not have seperate tyres/wheels for drifting like most people. At the end of the day we all drive modified cars, if we get pulled and the police find something they will carry on looking. Its there job to check cars are legal for the road. Im guessing it was 3 points for bald tyre and 3 points for no horn?

Obviously the car should be road worthy.

I dont understand if your's was insured or not.

But I've been pulled for "having no insurance" and I'm sure they know its insured but its a shite excuse they give for a reason just to pull you over, as I know a few people who have had it used on them.

Nixy

But there was a reason though wasnt there, not having a horn is an MOT failure for one, 2, Fine i get that he keeps the drifting on the track but he still drove it on public roads with bald tyres, not just a few miles but nearly 120!! norfolk arena (kings Lynn im guessin) i used to live in the area, and ur from Birmingham so i assume he is too, 120 miles with bald tyres on main faster roads..... :clapping:

Ye I think they do pull you for that so they can snoop out your car? Fair enough about the tyres I get that I mean I never knew...but his car was insured and we had all the papers but cause the police has already checked the tyres etc obviously they didn't wana know

Nixy
21st March 2010, 21:11
The reason he got pulled was cause there was no insurance showing so then booom they checked the rest of the car, and he has a horn but a switch and boom again it has to be on the steering wheel but his is one you swivel on and off! And I live brum he lives notts! And I was already in notts cause I drove there myself we just happened to get pulled on a night out

if he had of slipped in the wet un to a family car or failed to stop, it could have caused death or hurt someone

at the end of the day the cops spot a fault, they will then search to see if thee are more, its like finding a cracked agg in the box, you check to see if the others are too

If he was daft enough to have a car on the road with bald tyres its hardly surprising they wanted to see what else was dangerous on the car.

Heck knows perhaps he also forgot that his brakes were also out of pad material :geek:

I have a friend with a 296bhp R33 skyline GTSt..

it doesnt move without a thourough check over of all the tyres, he goes to nice quiet places away from the public to do a bit of drifting and where he doesnt risk anything or anyone in the process.

Point is that he knows his car attracts alot of attention and alot of it from the old bill, it occasionally comes up as uninsured because its an import but one swift call by the coppers at the roadside sorts that every time. he will not leave his house with that car unless it would pass an MOT that same day.

Fair play...well as you said those sorta cars attract a lot of attention, and cause his is white with a spoiler its very noticable, thing is he had the paper work to say it passed its MOT 4 weeks ago, so I don't get it, but he's getting his MOT done tomoro and obviously new tyres..just a pain but Its better he got caught now rather than in an accident! I'm not dissing the police or whatever just a pain at the niggly bits they get at you for e.g a horn and lights etc

Horn does NOT have to be on the steering wheel. Otherwise almost every single Saxo is illegal, as it's on the indicator stalk. ;)

As for the insurance, they wouldn't wanna know because for all they know, you could've taken the policy out to get the papers then cancelled it/stopped paying, you've got papers to make out you're legit, but in reality you're not covered. They don't know it's all been paid off in one, so the only way they can be sure is to actually get in touch with the insurers.

Been there done that hun. My car passed the MOT with brand new tires and flying colors. The only thing they found was a dim lightbulb, which got fixed in about 30 seconds....

Got pulled once as my tax was not registered apparently, and met a bunch of educated police officers. They were sound chaps. Your boyfriend could have had a blowout any second, trash the car in a ditch and be even more sorry. Eventually the cops saved his car, him from eventual injury and eventually you as a passenger.

Whether your b/f was drifting on public roads or on a track makes no difference...he shouldnt have been driving on public roads with bald tyres, especially that bad that the wire was poking out.

Your b/f was lucky. Its 3 points for a bald tyre, two bald tyres = 6 points which is 2 offences in 1 go which = a court appearance. Also the horn didnt work so theres another offence...basically the car wasnt road worthy and shouldnt have been on public roads.

I had a very different post written out until i read your latest comments so i'm pleased to have taken out the expletives and worded my reply differently. I'm glad to read that you and your b/f have learnt a lesson from this and hope that it wont be forgotten...we already have enough deaths on our roads.

I drive a piddling 1.1 and like to visually look my car over maybe once every week or 2 weeks. He goes drifting and can't be bothered to check his tyres, or possibly knew it was bald and was hoping to get away with driving back and getting it changed. Unlikely since in that case he would have taken the time to stick on the spare....surely.....

Carlvtr88
22nd March 2010, 10:39
Fail thread TBH... Police can be picky sometimes but, Come on.. Bald tyres are 3 points a piece.. and what was he Drifting for - then not replacing his tyres ? The police will just have seen the car as unroadworthy as already stated and its his job to make sure your bf doesnt go round a corner - Loose control and plough into a pedestrian or a tree and kill the both of you. As said above i give my car a check over make sure theres nothing that will cause it to be classed as an MOT failure.. Common sense really, That way you know your safe and sound. Glad to see your last post - He learnt his lesson and sorted it out. One accident prevented could be a life saved.

only thing i can sympathise with you ono is the insurance not coming up on database.

my fiestas insurance wasnt updated on system for over a year...= over 30 producer slips.

when i was driving that car or any other (as my policy allowed) i constantly got pulled and they always attempted to do me for no insurance. although i did. and my insurance company kept telling them everytime they enquired that i was.

had my policy for 3 years now. it vanished off the database in feb 2009, and was only sorted in the last 2 weeks.....

Well the fact is really like that i got arrested for stealing me own car.... because it was found with my finger prints on it..... It took them to lock me in a cell before they decided i was telling the truth.

Then i got kicked all over by doormen and they sed it was self defence they were doing there job.

I have been arrested for having an arguement in town with my ex they came to my house and arested me 2 days later after CCTV footage shows me suposedly hitting her..... only for them to realise i had me hands in me pockets and it was her hitting me wen she was mortal drunk.

And i got arrested on me 21st birthday for being to drunk in a taxi que coz i cud hardly stand...

thought i'd clear this 1 up :D
number 1... i knew my tyres were bald and completely intended to drift that night
which i did do up until the point where i was pulled while parked up.... on private land
number 2.... i got no points in the end, no fine and no court appearance... my mate brought me some spare wheels and i was on my way
number 3... no i dont have a mahooosive exhaust for speed, i have a gt3076r ball bearing turbo and other likewise goodies
number 4... weather u agree or disagree with drifting on or off track... people still do it and enjoy it and it turns more heads than any car will when its parked up or driovin normally (sensibly)

now.... yes i shudnt of been on public roads with them tyres... especially as it was snowing, i knew they were bald so drove slow (not that this justifies it) which shows i actually check the car...

other than that i dont daily the car any more.... ive got a eg6 and a mr2 import for daily drivers now :D... the 180sx is a drift toy
