Just drove 60 miles on mway, after 50 miles a loud whining noise started coming from the front of the car, i was giving it some so i backed right off and it went away but when i accelerated again it came back. any ideas?

I had a whining noise, which i thought at the time, was coming from my engine. It only occured when in gear and being heavy with my right foot. I first assumed that it would be cambelts tensioned too tightly or something along those lines however, when i stripped the rear of the car out i heard the noise coming from the rear instead. Turned out to be the back box (must of had the slightest of holes in it).

Turn your engine on, lift your bonnet, tap the accelerator and listen to the engine. If the noise is coming from there then you could have a number of problems. If the noise is not coming from the engine then it could be exhaust related. Hope this helps.

the noise is definately coming from the front of the car, it doesn't sound like the exhaust it's a mechanical noise, like a bearing. Thought it might be a wheel bearing but have read that it might be a drive shaft problem now, other people seem to have similar symtoms.
