Right heres my problem, I know saxos as standard have play in the gearbox but thats not what this issue is.

Basically, in any gears i can move the gearstick alot in any direction. 3rd seems to be the worse however there all much of a muchness tbh.

Ive replaced the main selector bar and the bracket with the ball that stops the linkages moving about. I also have a compbrake quickshift fitted however this isnt causing the problem as ive had that on for ages.

There is a bit of play in the main pin that goes into the gearbox. There is also still quite alot of play in the rubber ball that stops the linkages moving about even though it is brand new as is the selector bar :n:

The gearstick will wobble easily there is pretty much no resistant in the play at all, which is making me think it cant be the main pin in the gearbox ??

Also the gearstick shaft is tight on the selector bar aswell thats not causing the issue either.

Has anyone had this problem before ??

Cheers, Andy.

how is your gearbox oil andy? and do you have xsport gear linkages? they have some adjustment on them it.they may have loosened off slightly

no idea how the gearbox oil is tbh :(

Ive got the standard linkages on however i do have the kam racing ones i could fit. The thing is if i get someone to move the gearstick while im under the car looking asfar as i can see its just the linkages moving in the ball thingy the main pin doesnt move at all. All the play is taken up on that ball if you see what i mean.

yeah, ours was like that and we replaced the ball.before it was like it was in neutral in all gears now its tigher than it was when we first got it.try changing the linkages and maybe a gear oil change see if it helps.

ill change the linkages and see however they seem ok. i may just change the box to dougies and see if that helps lol.

The ball may have dropped off your bell crank.

Possibly the selector pin. Drill it out and fit a large bolt instead. :)

I can get hold of a new box for much cheapness may just change it over what do you think ??

Does it have a VTR gearbox currently?

Would only be worth doing if you go for something with closer ratios imo - vts, 1.4 xsi, s2/ s1 rallye etc.

ye its just the standard box and would be another vtr box going in. If i could get hold of a different one with closer ratios id be tempted but id need to know it was definently the box before i whipped it out obviously.......No sexual pun intended ;)

the bell crank is like a metal rod which sits in a tube and it has a ball on the end to guide it so it isnt sloppy. but the ball often comes off
