they are more worried about re-doing the foot paths round here instead of the roads, but in all fairness if they used the money on re-doing road surfaces i would not mind, but they dont. its not like they dont have the money either. :S

Eco cars dont have to pay road tax... Yet do they not use and wear down our roads? Road tax is supposed to be use to keep the roads in good condition c02 per g has nothing to do with it!!! I hate this country!

why should people who use push bikes on the road be taxed? If the price is set by CO2 emmissions then surely its right that cyclists pay no tax? The majority of cyclists drive cars aswell so they would be taxed twice? is that fair?

One of my mates was riding his 49cc moped and hit a pothole - Completely messed up his ribs and trashed his £3000 bike.
He got a £30,000 payout as it was that bad.

If the council had bothered to fill the pothole, it would have cost a considerable amount less than 30k!

So basically they not obly fail to keep the road to a suitable standard they piss 30k of the taxpayers money up the wall because of an accident they created...

Councils are not bothered about waste when it's pit of tax payers money they delve into...

Do they not use the road? Whats the difference between a Motorbike and pushbike? And dont say emmissions because the whole point of road tax in the first place is to maintain roads.

c02 emmissions have nothing to do with the condition the roads get in. Therefore it is ridiculous that the massive road tax prices that people in non eco cars have to pay are not spent on the actual roads. We all use the road and wear it out.

Id be alot less reluctant to pay road tax if I knew that everyone paid there way equally and not just because their car or bike is eco friendly.

I'm pretty sure road tax doesn't pay for road maintenance. I think it's council tax that does

So because I occasionally use my bike on the road I should pay a second road tax on top of what I already pay for my car? I agree that "eco-freindly" cars should be made to pay road tax but completely disagree with taxing a cyclist who will occasionally cycle to work if the weathers ok or do a few miles on a sunday.

I sold my car with a month of tax in favour of one with a year :) Also made £600 profit out of doing so extra :y:

Definantly a valid point! I wouldnt support a tax for cyclists as its just not practicle. I was just trying to enforce the point about anything eco friendly seems to be overlooked and the roads and road users are suffering.

The problem is the weight of the vehicles that causes/promotes damage to the roads, look at the inside lane of a motor and notice the two tramlines. Large Commercial vehicles like Buses & Lorries pay HUGE tax each year...

A push bike on the other hand...

It should be done on mileage. Or everyone pays the same amount. Not on emmitions. I hope whoever wins the election sorts this out.

Seriously? thats even worse then basing it on emmisions!! If it was done by mileage in order to monitor it they would fit a box to your car telling them where you are, what speed you have been doing and how many miles you have done. No thanks :n:
