Depends what you want to-do. If its drive-away from purchase than its fine, however day insurance is very picky, they tend to only allow cars worth more than £3000.

Had this problem when I tried to pick up my E39 528i, only worth £1500, and they wouldn't touch me.

For a track-day? I'd phone the "Kit Car" companies, they do over a range of deals and they're really cheap.

Locost Kit Car, hand built, 2.0 Ford Duratec Engine, £83 fully comp, 1500 limited miles a year, and use on track-days included. (Not mine before anyone asks.)
