View Full Version : Cyclist Rant.

Right, I'm not sure if I should rant about this, but it really annoyed me.

I've been to Blackpool Pleasure Beach today for a day out with my mates - It turned out to be really good, even if I have strained my neck on In Fusion.

Anyways, I was on the way back to drop a couple of my mates off and just going down the road was 2 cyclists in the middle of the road. They were chatting to each other and not paying attention, so I gave them a little toot of the horn and well...

One of the 2 guys did the right thing and got to the side of the road, but the other slowed down right in front of me in the middle of the road and made me basically come to a stop.

I knew he was about to try and start something and tbh I didn't want to be up against this (proabably) 30 odd year old, especially when the girlfriend is in the car and when I'm 17 (and not very built tbh :n:).

So after I clicked on that he wanted to start something, I just went to pull past him and as I did, he smacked my window with great force and tried damaging my car.. Its like WTF are you doing? Your on a bike, you keep to the left so that car's can come through.

Urgh, completely random, but I just needed to get it out!

/rant.

They do actually take the piss.

Why not ride at the side of the road. Or get a proper bike and go offroad.

Some of them are pure suicidal.

Annoys me at traffic lights when some of them think the Red lights dont apply to them :S

tbh i do a lot of cycling, but after reading what you said. there are just some cyclists who are utter nobs and give us bad names, and between you and me you should have just clipped his back wheel and made him fall off, as being on a bike and starting on cars is not a good idea lol. but i would like to say there are some geniunly nice people who ride bikes out there :)

one thing i hate more than the joes in the taxis are cyclists. make the road so dangerous at times. always see people doing ridiculous overtaking manoevers to get past one in the middle of the road.
Wish they'd go on the kurb tbh but then thats quite a bad idea for pedestrians lol

CORRECT!!

The area i stay in seems to be plagued with them, especially on Sundays. They ride 2-3-4 abreast & sometimes in packs of 10-15 riders.

I saw three of them on the straight of a back road to the village i live once as i pulled onto it in the distance once. I was driving my Accord Type R at the time so, clicked into 2nd gear and gassed it. By the time a reached them doing 85mph & 7500rpm leaving very little room as i passed, all three of them shat it & as i looked in the mirror i saw one of them wobble & fall off into the verge. Wrong thing to do? Probably but it made me feel all warm inside!!

As for you situation, personally i'd have stopped the car and twatted him. Or if i didn't then my missus probably would have.

I'm a mountain biker myself but i fookin hate all them stiff backed roadie poofs!!

Im a cyclist, and do alot of training on the road. End of the day its knobs that give us bad names, its not any group of people its indviduals. Just like all "saxo drivers" arnt knobs who ragg around and drive like twats.

Always going to be induviduals who have attitude :n: Nice one for not raising to the bait though, he's sounds a knob. :n:

I have cycled most of my life and this man speaks sense!

Car drivers should treat cyclists as they treat horse riders. Being in both seats it's easy to see why both individuals get pissed off! But ask any cyclist and they will tell you that 90% of cars that pass them don't leave enough room or slow down!

now compare that with people passing horses! Granted not all slow down and give room but more do.

And don't forget horses and bikes were here first!

I give all bike riders and horse riders plenty of room. I slow right down for horses and try and keep the exhaust as quiet as poss.

I have been cycling down a quiet 20mph road and had a cunt drive as close as possible to me at 30+ mph. Now that will throw even the most experience rider slightly off balance. This is why cyclists start riding 3-4 or even 5 a breast.

You should overtake a cyclist as you do a car.

If they are blocking your route then hold back and wait until you can pass them!

If you had done what you did in your driving test you would have failed.

End of.

I know what you're saying. Because my main form of transport is my car!!

And the war against the motorist is purely down to the government funding their fucking cock-ups!

it has nothing to do with cyclists holding you up! I'm sorry, but even driving perfectly legally it is quite simple to pass a row of cyclists safely and easily.

Just like it would be a car doing the same speed. It would hardly hold you up on your journey.

I live 56 mile south of John O Groats the top of Scotland, and up here the roads are twisty as fuck, theres not many straight bits North of Inverness

So when a group of cyclists are holding me up i might have to wait a minute behind them until it's safe to overtake, and then i just quickly get past them

If a car is going slow it pisses me off but they paid their money so are perfectly entitled to be there

I wouldn't let a kid ride a bike on the road, no. But on the pavement... I know that's illegal, but they've got to learn one day. It's part of growing up.

Actually, i bet that's happened to 80% of the forum in some form or another.
By no means saying it's a good thing or that i'd ever want it to happen. But it does.
And ofcourse you wouldn't take your eye off the child and nor would you go near any busy roads.

why on earth would they charge a bike road tax when some cars dont even pay it, and if a bike was registered with plates it would infact actauly pay £15 tax a year!
As for bikes on the road side by side is fine when nobody is around, as me and mates do it. but as soon as we hear a car we drop into single file ! bikers is groups covering the full road is just dangerous

I ride my bike on the road and me and mates always used to move over but then ride 2/3 abreast to chat when no cars about.

Got to say though that when riding through our town the cars hate me. I stop at lights, i stick as far left as possible.
Had one guy almost take me out the other day as he just turned without signaling. He got shouted at and almost had my spikey pedals in his bumper.

Cyclist should alsway move over and cars should give them more room.

Idiots doing both so never going to be sorted.
