is it practice to change the timing belt and water pump when a head gasket is being replaced......not sure when they were done before....
thanks in advance for your comments....

If they havent been changed in a while...

Its just that its easier to do everything in one go while you've got bits off, instead of having to keep taking the engine apart on seperate occasions.

I tend to always replace a belt once removed

just an update from doin head gasket......had loads of problems changing water pump..ended up smashing it off in small peices till it finally gave up and came out... all in all think it took bout 7 hours from striping to getting it back running again ....dont think thats too bad considering ive never really worked on an engine before ...
thanks to the peeps that gave me enuf info to get this job done saved me at least 300 quid from not takin to a garage would defo be doin the rest of the jobs myself......thanks again......:y::y::y:

Did u change the stretch bolts or did u use the same ones? And when u say it was steaming from the exhuast by how much? Im asking as my saxo seems to spit water out of the exhaust alot and i think it maybe the headgasket :/ but it runs fine.

yeah was all new mate stretch bolts ...water pump ...etc spent all n all bout 100 quid to do the whole job so hopefully aint gotta worry for at least a few years....and about the steaming it was like a kettle lmao . it drove very sluggish no power and over heated very quickly ....you might find that the water you may have leaking could possibly be down to just condensation build up in your exhaust....
