i've sanded down my alloys with 240 wet n dry, then 1200 wet n dry, washed it all, primed, then went to spray them black, only to find when i do circles start forming where the paint won't stick? what the hells gone on!!

how close are you spraying to the wheels?
you in a room or outside?
how long are you waiting between coats?

like 15cm or so away, and it's happened on the first coat of black, 3 came out fine, but this one the paint just wont stick in places

yeap, but it won't stick at all to the primer, like..90% of the wheel surface is perfect then there's this one patch where it won't!

well only other thing i can think of is if the aerosol has to much cellulose in it, which is a thinner, it woud make the pait kind of watery. and also spray the actual "black" unevenly. so you would get an evenblack spray one min and then a lashing of the cellulose, which doesnt take to primer at all :y:
haha thats what i learned from working in halfrauds

try sanding the primer down with p800 wet or p 500 dry that works it college orr if you havent put clear coat on it sand that bit back down with 800 and the rest with p1200 and give another coat of black

when you washed the wheel afterwards did you use fairy liquid or something of that description? if you didnt wash it off properly it doesn't let paint stick at all!

you need panel wipe

fairy liquid i used that to clean all the mess off after sanding. right so i'm guessing if i wash with water all will be okay?
holdawayt
3rd April 2010, 10:13
yup lol most likely. the fairy liquid acts as a barrier and doesnt allow the paint to stick. make sure its all washed off properly (use meths or an alcohol based cleaner) and it should be fine

wouldnt white spirit take the paint off though? i hope thats the problem because i couldnt think of anything else

lol good shout. i've used meths on mine when i was doing my zetec s wheels and had no problems. dont take my word for it though! dont want to be responsible for wrecking your work!

what primer are you using?

Sounds like its 'fish eyeing' to me. It happens when an area/surface is contaminated. Just wait for the paint to dry, rub it down, wash it with some panel wipe/degreaser and then it should be fine. :y:

Maybe oil or something on the wheel surface or unshaken paint???

mine did it, put everything on the wheels to remove it nothing worked. u just gotta drop the primer into the holes in the paint very finely till you've built up some layers to resand with 1200gt then spray again all over with primer. works a treat. the finer you spray the less it disperses

right so i went back and i've had a go at fixing this! i've built up layers of primer bit by bit, and sanded until smooth with the rest of the paintwork as marcusd had advised, then spraying my black i found it has stuck! turned out fine and just a case of putting them back on my sax
