Sub and amp.

Just bought a Saxo VTR, and looking for a sub and amp to go with it.
I dont want the bass too heavy, so it over powers the music, or so it shakes the number plate off!
I would just like one to give a bit off a shake and good bass without paying an extortionate price.
How much would i be looking at?
