manifold to downpipe query

yo, fitted my mani the other day...its a 16v raceland mani connected to a supersprint race pipe ( replaces cat ).

i connected it up by simply meeting the pipe together ( female to male ). and putting two bolts between the two flanges with a few washers and a nut. simple. but i was browsing kam racing and i have seen these gasket things they sell. for manifold to cat pipe.
wt are these for? i havent had any issues. is it recommended to get one, and would it fit between a raceland 16v mani and a supersprint race pipe?

if it's the one that looks like a circle and is made of wire it is called a fire ring. Fit's at the cat flange under the car. Without it it will blow badly. You may have used yours without knowing as they tend to stick to the pipe and they smooth off and go shiny from the joint flexing and twisting mate.
