clutch, gearbox or driveshafts?

Hi

I pulled off at a set of lighs and let up on the clutch a bit quick and when i went to put it into 2nd gear i heard a little like bang now i can put it in gear without the clutch being down and the clutch dosnt have a bitting point any more?

has anyone got any ideas

you can put it in gear WITHOUT the clutch being down? is the car running when you do this?

does the car move at all when you put it in gear and try and drive it? or does it just rev?

i might be totally wrong but when this happend on my gt it was the clutch that had totally chewed itself to bits.

it also happend on my mates fiesta it kept running for about 5 miles then it just gave up.
