no idea if i'll go to the bookies :ponder:

got "mon mome" in a sweep at a work last year (odds of 100-1) :D so that was £25 back for me for my £1. just pulled out "made in taipan" there the now in this years sweep, also at odds of 100-1........ 'deja-vu' anyone :panic:

I hope so. Got the same horse @ 150 / 1

Hopefully my luck will run on from last week. Bet that Chelsea would win 2-1 and Haye would win with a 9th round KO.

Didn't even pick Made in Taipan because of the odds, the name just stood out for me lol.

(Awaits horse coming last)

each way means the horse can place somewhere in the top 3. I don't use betting websites I just nipped into the local coral or ladbrookes can't remember which one it was now and haven't got my slip on me lol.

alanrichie
9th April 2010, 11:13
Each-way bets 1/4 odds first 4.

does that mean the odds are 1/4'd? so 18/1 is infact 4.5/1 ?

joshg_7
9th April 2010, 11:17
first 4 places...some sites will offer up to 5 places. National is a waste of time

so if the stakes are 18/1 and the horse finishes in the top 4. i put a tenna on and get 190 back?

9th April 2010, 11:30
My work are doing a little bet within the company.. Random 2 picks for a quid - So far I have got "Big Fella Thanks" and I get to choose another later. Not sure where this horse ranks though...

COME ON BIG FELLA THANKS!

ljbcaveman
9th April 2010, 11:32
if the horse you put on at each way was to win you would get £180 but if it was to only place in top 4 you would only get £45. I think thats right. I could well be wrong though lol.

No only if you win.

If you put a tenner on each way you are betting 20 quid. Fiver each way is a tenner bet, 5 goes on it to win at 18/1 and 5 goes on it to place in top 4 at 4.5/1.

I won £500 last year totally random aswell i jus picked a name out of a hat and backed it to win.

Love how it was 100/1 last year, now its like 12/1 lol. I know someone who put £10 on it to win, was a random pick and got £1000 back, lucky bitch. She's minted though, so a tenner on a horse at 100/1 is nothing to her.

Favourite's don't count for anything in the National, another horse falling could easily take the favourites down.

I've got Comply or Die on again, had it the last two years running and it's served me proud, hopefully third time lucky!

My tips would be to go with :-

ARBOR SUPREME :y:
WEIGHT (10-08)
AGE (8)
NATIONALITY (IRE)

reasons are Weight is critical to Grand National Success
Hedgehunter became the first winner since Corbiere
to carry over 11stone so try to avoid over 11st
the age of the horse is very important,
Eleven out of the last 17 winners were aged ten or above but nine is the new ten and horses are so well trained now that nine year olds are very much in favour. arbor supreme is still young but dont let that worry you.

im also going to back

SNOWY MORNING:y:
WEIGHT (10-13)
AGE (10)
NATIONALITY (IRE)

despite the tremendous win from Mon Mome in 2009.
try and avoid french horses, regardless of what people may say, they just can't go the distance in this race. Irish and British horses are specifically trained day in and day out, all year around, for this kind of steeplechase so go with one of them!

It might depend who you bet with.

But William Hill have it;

Big Fella Thanks 8/1
Mome mome 10/1

my thoughts exactly!

i had a bust up with my other half last nyt. hes backed vic venturi either way because hes got 'inside information'......

now, iv worked with horses since i was little little, ridden racehorses bought ex-racehorses, had my own fair share of tips....but anyone who knows the slightest thing about racing knows that tips dont matter in the GN coz its such a bloody dangerous race any horse could fall or ride up lame.

he told me i didnt know anything and that some guy from his work (in a garage) had gave him the tip....

ill watch and laugh when fuck all happens like,......

and yeah, french horses are pish. british and irish (irish bred the best horses in the world for EVERYTHING- fact most of my horses as from ireland) are brought up on the ground they will race on (obviously)

will have to have a look, won the past 4 big races over here this past year, although its a hell of a lot easier to bet than it is in england, and the decimal betting system works wonders, which they will be changing to in england later this year.

as for a tip: dont push it. and thats the horse not a statement. jp mcmanus trains it and the jockey is damn good.

as much as the GN is an open race so to speak you cant ignore a good jockey and trainer, the money that they stand to win or lose is a lot more than 99% of people will bet anyway.

i work in a pub, and they doing a thing there. Put £2 in, pick a number at random in a bag, and 1st prize is £80 2nd £40 3rd £10 i think, something along those lines. Nothing mega bucks, but for £2 :) I think mine is ballyholland? Or something like that.

The Grand National is one of the worst races to bet on IMO. Too many horses, too many jumps... it just comes down to luck

Agreed, any decent gambler doesn't usually do the National due to this reason. There isn't many races out there where a 100/1 wins lol. I usually bet on Kempton or Chester as once you've studied, winning is reasonably easy compared to some others - Cheltenham etc.

I'm just going to put a tenner each way on Snowy Morning.

Frequent gamblers don't usually reveal who their backing lol ;). I only recouped my money and £40 (not much at all to me) due to a lucky E/W I did, got the rest back from the ones who fell due to a special that Paddy Power had, at least i'm still up even if it is a little.
