Passenger door

I have a mk2 vtr, on my passenger door you can open it from the inside but not from the outside, ive tried to have a look myself to see if i could source the problem, by the looks of it part of the mechanism has snapped, a bit unsure why. :(
I've been told that I will have to get a new door, is there any other way I could fix it, by changing the mechaism if possible? .. any ideass?

I would have thought getting a new door because of a faulty or broken door locking mechanism was a bit extreme. You should be able to get another locking mechanism from your local scrappy.
