Newbie with a VTS!

Hi there! Just got myself a 2001 VTS yesterday, so thought i would join up to the forum as i am going to need a LOT of advice!

It has three pages worth of MOT failures lol most of them are all related to eachother though so hopefully wont be too much of a wallet ache to fix.

My names Richard and im from Chislehurst by the way!!

Cheers mate, Paid £900 for it. Its got 65,000 miles on the clock. Needs new brakes all round, need to get a CAT as it hasnt got one and i need an MOT and a few other little bits like its way too low so i need to make it higher!

Its got potential. Don't think you need to 'higher' it just some smaller rims would be a good start..

Sorry for the late reply i have been stuck out of the country due to the stupid volcano!

Dam nice car i wanted a white one!

Basically the three pages of mot failures sound alot worse than they actually are. I think the brakes take up over one page as they have to list every component seperately eg n/s disc, n/s pad ect...

The faults are:

> Discs and pads all round need replacing (i fitted all these last night cost me £48 brand new delivered from Ebay)

> Hand brake cable snapped so needs replacing (not yet done)

>Smaller wheels needed as its rubbing like a bitch (already ordered some
black vtr alloys that should be coming early next week £100 delivered from ebay)

> Drivers seat too wobbly! (fixed this already)

> 6 bulbs needed replacing (done)

> Exhaust manifold blowing (perfect condition standard one bought from ebay for £10 delivered just need to get the gaskets to change it)

> No cat in the exhaust ( not yet sorted )

I think that was prety much everything which again the majority of them sound worse than they are.

In total so far i have speant exactly £1157.90 thats for the car and all the bits i have had to buy so far. The only other thing i am going to have to buy is a standard cat.

Are the VTR and VTS cats exactly the same on a 2001 car? Can i buy and fit a second hand VTR cat?

Quality mate! so you got a VTR i take it then? What other cars you had since the punto?

well punto got written off so had a mondeo for about 4 months as a hire car after that i had an orange 206 gti then got the saxo lol what about you?

Kool kool, i had a Fiesta ST after the punto then i had a Mk4 Golf GTI both speant silly money on them to get them to descent power (specially the golf!). Thats why i wanted to get a more down to earth car that needs work doing on it, hopefully make some money on it for a change!
