View Full Version : Loud tapping noise

Just returned a run out and when I pulled I noticed a loud noise coming from the engine.

Popped the bonnet to see where the noise may be coming from and can only say it's coming from the rocker cover up, leaving the cams or coil pack as possible fault. opened up the oil cap with engine running to see if the cams were jumping or bent, but couldn't see anything out the ordinary.

I'm thinking it could be the coil pack or a spark plug not delivering the spark properly. When upping the revs the tapping noise speeds up and I have noticed a slight hiccup in the engine.

Also the when at high speeds and putting my foot down the front left front makes a noise and vibrated alot, which it didn't! But I reckon that's probably the drive shaft.

So anyone had this noise before and know what the fix is?

Mines doing the same mate.. does it sound rough on a hill start?

sounds horrendous..

when you took your oil cap off does it blow air out?

Haven't really heard anything till I pulled up, so wouldn't know on the hill start thing.

It does blow air out when removing the oil cap, whilst engine is running but isn't ment to?

I think it's something to do with the spark not delivering properly. It just has that sound of a spark. Just wondered if anyone else ever has this problem and had a fix, rather than me going through the troubleshooting process?

Was servuced about a month ago. Had a look at the spark plugs and noticed one was loose, and some muck down as well. Gave it a clean down and put sparks back in, and all seems well again.

Have you had any problems with this since?

I have noticed some vibration recently from the from left (only after a few miles) and more recent had some tapping sound from the top end of the block which increases with the revs.

Mate thinks i could have dropped a piston but i'm not sure tbh.

Bought car and 4k ago and imedeatly done oil change and have kept levels correct.

Cam was done 8k ago too if this matters?

Cheers

Done this and it was one loose plug.

Cleaned and tightened and it seems fine now, Wierd thought as plugs were changed few thousand miles ago.

All sorted anyways
