Is 5 grand too much to spend on a watch ?
Or could it be a good investment?

Sounds ridiculous, but if you know your watches and are in a postion to buy one at that price, then why not.

You know my opinion.
At the end of the day, a carefully selected watch can easily accumulate in value over a short period of time.
Please don't buy a bentley though!

You could by a car for that, but cars just seem to depreciate. Until they get to a certain value.
Been looking at a new rolex, they appear to hold the value well .

hmmm, not a fan of rolex as imo the quality doesnt seem what it once was and breitlings are owned by cocks.
if you are doing it for an investment there are much better ways of making money.

£5k on a watch?! Mental!! What sort of return are you likely to make and over what time period? As others have said, almost inveitabley a better way to invest the money and with a much greater return!

Not keen personally as they look like a squashed submariner lol
Agree with the breitling comment above, they seem to have become popular like Burberry did years ago. Look what happened to that.
You'd be better off with a bimetal as they seem to demand mire on resale for some reason

probably 50% return over 5 years , would not be unreasonable.
It all depends on the price rises

Hmm better than I thought it'd be, but still £500 a year out of £5000 isn't the most profitable way of using the money. Having said that, I guess there's no effort whatsoever required apart from purchasing the watch which is an upside..

this one would be for investment not day to day wearing, I could not see myself in a bi metal at moment.
What do you think to the 2010 new submariner withe the new ceramic bezel ?

Not seen one in the skin but I'll always have a soft spot for subs as ling as they have the date function. They look lost without!

So you'd only make £2,500 over 5 years, for a watch that you want to pay £5,000 for?
Meaning it'll sell for £7,500?
A waste of dosh imo.

First thing it still amazes me how this forum is full of alot more info than just cars! Some people seem to know everything and anything!
Secondly i think £2,500 over 5 years isn't a great return, more likely to get more excitement/money betting on horses or something lol

date bubble deffo makes the sub special, have you seen the green bezel limited edition ?

thats what i thought.
Im no watch expert, but a 10% return a year is good IMO. interest rates at the moment mean you would be earning fock all.
would 5k get you a watch which would be special enough to appreciate?

50th anniversary one? They do look good but still prefer the black bezel.
Just buy a yacht master or a classic ;)

At the moment Swiss watches have gone up 38% in 18 months, money in the average bank account has gone up .75%
