I currently have tonsilltis and have had it quite a lot. Over the years and I wanted to know if I can insist on having them taken out, as the older you get makes the operation more difficult and recovery time longer.
I am seeing the doctor tomoz but do I have to ask for them to be taken out or is it only under doctor's orders?
Cheers

I think its only under doctors orders mate, my gf has had it 7 times and they said the next time they would take them out, but weather they would or not im not sure, prob just give you some penicilin tbh.

How old are you mate? And how often have you had it say within the last 1 - 2 years?
I had mine out when I was 6.

i had mine removed when i was 16, and that was only because they were un equally inflamed... had reacurring tonsilitis, think you have to have it so many times in a year before they will consider it.

I used to suffer all the time when I was younger. When I was 12, I got very ill with glandular fever, and that was the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak. I had my tonsils taken out soon afterwards. Wasn't the most pleasant of experiences I'm afraid chap.

As above.... I recently had quinsy throat... Yeah Im a special one, only had tonsillitis per se a couple of times, but the doc said If I get Quinsy again I'd have to have them out.... and I'd rather not have them out!
Well tbh it wasnt nice when they 'surgically drained' my abscessed tonsil....

The trick to getting your tonsils out is by saying it's affecting your work.
Simply tell Doc that if you've came to speak to him about your tonsils on the recomendation from your work as your sick too frequently. Then simply tell him your only off with tonsillitis & if you have anymore time off in the next 12months your'll be going to go straight to disciplinary.
Do not put words in their mouth or suggest having them removed (nobody likes to be told what to do) and they will come to that conclusion on their own to protect your job & livelihood.
This was how I got mine out. (Those genuinely were my circumstances tho)
1 of my mates has had success with this & one of his mates too.
I got my tonsils removed, followed all the instructions about eating dry/rough food to clean the wounds but they got infected anyway. My throat became ridiculously swollen to the point I couldn't eat (& barely drink) for several days -it was easily the worst pain i've ever experienced!
BUT... I've not been off since my recovery period and my managers are pretty chuffed.
My only regret is that I didn't get them out sooner tbh as I was getting it pretty damn bad every 12wks or so.
Good luck buddy :y:
