you are aware that if you want a full shell made you will also need someone to sort chassis for you?
Pieface
17th April 2010, 19:13
Well, a Roof is £1000
Then you need people to make the moulds and everything. At minimum, it would be about 35 - 40k

just vinyl wrap one
why would you waste all that money on a saxo? The bill would be absolutely huge
Would I be right in thinking it would have to have a space framed chassis made and then a carbon fibre shell made to fit on top?

Unless you have an actual race car worth LOTS of money then carbon fibre is just another ASW thing, looks nice, but is it worth the cost? fuck no

Good luck with even minor chips / repairs :y:
Also it would cost a AWFUL lot. Vinyl wrap is the best idea if it's just for looks tbh

That.
So, carbon fibre car, with a supercharged K20 lump.
I wish you all the best. And hope you prove me wrong. But for now, i'm going to say that's nothing more than a dream.
And i'd say that to do all that you're looking at well, well in excess of £20k

you can get the Zcar kit, for a K20 lump . . . mounts and such... 7500 iirc!
then you need the engine, and fitting...
with that you need the plan and chassis fabricated
so id say 12-15k depending on engine, and such too. once all that is done!
i looked into it.
my mate will fit the kits, as he does them for Hayabusa minis.
he can also makee the frames and cages for it all too.
and it'll still set me back a fair few grand!
maybe in a few years if i still have a saxo!
but as everyone else has said, prove us wrong!

To make an entire shell from carbon will be more than a few grand ontop of the z cars. Then theres the supercharger etc.

i was on about the basic kit with standard shell and such.
i wouldnt like to hazard a guess at a custom shell and chassis!
isnt there someone on here who recently (this year) had the full carbon fibre roof conversion done? and that was fucking costly, to say the least!

Costly isn't the word
waste of fucking money is the correct phrase
its just something to ASW about. In terms of the cost to performance ratio, it's a rip off.
but i guess its worth doing if the plan is just to update a progress thread several times a day and get bummed by the masses over something that is just as pointless as taking a coat on a holiday to africa.

If you want something different and you're absolutley loaded - go for it.

18th April 2010, 20:14
why would you chuck 17k at a saxo? get a grip
0rang3peel
18th April 2010, 20:19
Heres an idea.
Borrow my ladder, put it on the side of your house, climb up slowly you don't want to fall off now do you, locate the highest part of the roof (usually near the chimney if you have one), now start sprinting towards the end of the roof, now finaly take a gigantic leap aiming for the hardest part of the ground you can.
Do that now then come back and post about it kk?

17k could get a TVR, know which 1 I would choose.
although you may need another 17k to insure yourself on it

Yeah, to be honest mate.
Buy an Evo 8.
Buy a kit car thing, I don't know, Caterham Atom etc? Don't know how much they are, but they will be quicker...obviously, and are track cars.
The only conceivable reason you'd do this is novelty.

18th April 2010, 20:33
I think that it would be a realy cool car but and its a big but, would it not be easier for you and your grandad to chip in together for a evo 9? 4 wheel drive, amazing grip and not much keep up with them on the road.
Even if you did them conversion your going to struggle for grip, it will end ip driving like the clio v6's that are on a knife edge while cornering and I wouldnt think that you would want this car for life. Preferences change and your never going to get all the money you sink ito it back.
Theres wanting something original and wanting something quick. If you want quick get an evo, if you want origonal give z-cars a ring.

ASW In my opinion. Nobodys that stupid to chuck 17k at a Saxo.

Well just for instance: a Ferrari enzo has 480bhp per ton- a Saxo weighing about 600kg made from carbon fibre and a 400bhp engine would have 650bhp per ton... My God!
... See you later mate!

an enzo can out the power down though :homme:
saxo would need massively wide wheels
beefy transition
if you want silly power to weight get a mini with a silly engine

Save yourself about £10k.
Get Z Cars to fit a K20 lump, for £5.5k, or whatever it is, then spend 2.5/3k on a supercharger/ECU, and run about 300bhp.
Still doesn't make complete sense when you consider what you can buy for that price, but makes a hell of a lot more sense than spunking £17k on a car that you'll either... (and this seems the most popular choice when people spend an age building one) sell, or crash, or run out of funds for.

IMO, classic case of 'I read MAX POWER. I want carbon fiber EVERYTHING!'
As much as i love my car, if i had 17k i definately wouldnt spend it on a saxo.
