i admit there are a few but dear god some are dangerous. and some old hag down a 30 road. could barely see over the wheel. and half of her car was over the line in the middle of the road with me about 10 metres in front. dangerous i think so.
everyone should have to retake their test every 5 years imo. at least 10

People who can't use the correct words, i.e. the difference between they're, their and there, or even use the correct version of allowed, shouldn't be allowed to post on forums... Oh wait. EDIT: Fucking beat me to it, darn it.
Also, being old doesn't really have anything to do with being ABLE to drive, why shouldn't old people be ABLE to drive, do all old people suddenly become unable? No. There is a difference between being able and being allowed.

which is also why i said people need to retake their license/test every 5 years at least 10. or just do it when you need to renew your photo at 10 years anyway.

That part was aimed at Caino and his misuse of the word able to be honest mate, I wasn't being serious, just trying to point out the wrong use of word, obviously got beat to it, thus making me look like a twat.

Younger people (25 or under) cause more accidents that old people (55+).

saying that my mate was overtaking a old lady going dangeously slow then someone wasn't looking where they were going and was pulling out of a road and went into the side of him. not being in them doesn't mean they haven't caused them in some way.
i mean in my one earlier no one should be driving in the center of the road. let alone with someone heading towards you

I'm sorry my dear friend but that information is incorrect.
Under 25's are "involved" in more accidents that over 55's. That doesnt mean they caused them. The amount of times i've seen people have a 'near miss' due to an old person, A) not indicating, B) driving well below the speed limit, C) unnecessarily switching lanes, D) disobeying give way signs, ect...ect...
far outways the amount of times I have seen a young person drive like an idiot.
Some old people are completely useless at driving, some dont even understand that you have to insure a vehicle.
On the contrary, there are some very good elderly drivers out there who would put most of us to shame.
My main gripe is, slow driving does not equal safe driving, which most older people belive does.

old people do not need to drive fast, they are in no rush to get anywhere quickly and have time on their hands. my girlfriends grandad still drives and he is 95, and his driving is pretty damn good. as said before do not tarnish everyone with the same brush.

So which age group "causes" the most accidents ?

28th April 2010, 18:43
Alot of statistics can be flawed for example, most 18 y/o's that are to blame for an accident have to go thru their insurance company, wheras i would guess alot more older people can sometimes pay for any damage the have done rather than go thru heir insurance

Younger people (25 or under) cause more accidents that old people (55+).
Thats because theres a alot more people in the lower age group actually using the roads. Probability tells you the chances or an accident favour people who are younger.
Just the same as women are less likly to crash than men, not because there "safer" drivers, but because theres a hell of alot less of them using the roads.
Just think how many women do you see driving a lorry, taxi, bus ect ect?

IMO, If older people feel more comfortable doing less than the speed limit then I dont have an issue, if its safe then i just overtake them and carry on with my life, and leave them to theirs!, Speed limits are not mandatory, yes you cant go above the them but it doesnt mean you have to do that particular speed, if you want to do 40 in a 60, for example, then there is no law to say you cant, and tbh doing 40 or whatever isnt that dangerous in a 60, because if it was then lorries wouldnt be limited to 40 on national speed limit roads, or 56 on dual carriageways and motorways, I can see how we all get frustrated with older people on the road but hey they have as much right to be there as we do.
Having said that i do feel that feactions and attention spans are far less than younger generations so a retest i think wouldnt be unreasonable, and for the more comfident and able older drivers wouldnt have anything to worry about doing a retest.....

it may be ridiculous but it not that dangerous, my opinion is thats its only ridiculous because its inconvenient to someone wanting to go faster than that, me included!

should be illegal to hold up 1 person or more when you're doing less than the speed limit.
JoshB
28th April 2010, 21:07
I always have to chuckle at the old people that just do 40mph, no matter where, on what road, theyll do 40mph. Follow them all through the national speed limit road sticking to 40, then back into the built up areas, not indicating once and theyll carry on doing 40mph in the 30 zone.
But theyre the safe drivers and pay about £50 a year to insure a 5 litre BMW.

You're totally wrong.
Most statistics are presented as a percentage of accidents. The link below tells you that 10% of people aged 17-18 have had an accident but only 2% of people over 50 have had an accident. It also says that the chances of having an accident over the age of 25 reduces drastically.

You think teenage men are safer drivers than teenage women?
Are you sure?

Lol i was behind an Old lady in a Pegeout 106 a few weeks ago, along a 60mph stretch, now i was impressed because she was doing 60mph and over when usually they do about 40mph in a 60mph lol and when she got to the roundabout she just went straight across a quite a speed, there was no hanging about like most old people do. Respect to her imo :P
